There are only two batters in the 150-plus history of test cricket who have scored more than 10 double centuries. The first one is Sir Don Bradman, while the second one is Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara. The left-hander was probably the best all-format batter from Sri Lanka. He made his test debut in July 2000 against South Africa and played for 15 years.
In his test career, he played a total of 134 tests and scored 12400 runs at an average of 57.40, with a best of 319. The southpaw also scored 38 centuries and 52 half-centuries. He scored 11 double hundreds in his career. We will cover all of them in this article.

1. Kumar Sangakkara – 230 vs Pakistan in 2002
Sangakkara scored his maiden double hundred against Pakistan in March 2002 in Lahore. Pakistan made 234 and 325 in two innings. Sri Lanka scored 528 runs in the first inning, with Sangakkara scoring 230 runs with 33 fours and three sixes. Sri Lanka got a small target of 32, which they made and won by 8 wickets.
2. Kumar Sangakkara – 270 vs Zimbabwe in 2004
The next double century for Sangakkara came two years later, in May 2004. He made it against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Sri Lanka batted once and declared the inning at 713/3, with Sangakkara scoring 270 runs with 36 fours and two sixes. Bangladesh managed 228 and 231 in two innings and lost by an inning and 254 runs.
3. Kumar Sangakkara – 232 vs South Africa in 2004
After scoring his second, Sangakkara scored his third double century a few months later. He made it against South Africa in August 2004 in Colombo. Sri Lanka scored 470 runs in the first inning, and the left-hander scored 232 runs. South Africa scored 189 and 179 in two innings, and Sri Lanka scored 211/4 in their second inning. Sri Lanka won that match by 313 runs.
4. Kumar Sangakkara – 287 vs South Africa in 2006
The fourth double century came in July 2006. It also came against South Africa in Colombo. Sri Lanka batted once and declared their inning at 756/5. Sangakkara played a brilliant inning of 287, and Mahela Jayawardene made 374. South Africa scored 169 and 434 runs in two innings and lost by an inning and 153 runs.
5. Kumar Sangakkara – 200 not out vs Bangladesh in 2007
Sangakkara scored his fifth double century in July 2007 against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka batted only once and declared 451/6 in 124.5 overs. The left-hander made 200 not out with 20 fours and two sixes. Bangladesh scored 62 and 299 in two innings and lost the game by an inning and 90 runs.
6. Kumar Sangakkara – 222 not out vs Bangladesh in 2007
After scoring 200 not out in the second test of the three-match series of Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka, Sangakkara scored another double century in the third test. Once again, Sri Lanka batted only once and declared at 500/4. The left-hander made 222 not out with 28 fours. In two innings, Bangladesh made 131 and 176 and lost the game by an inning and 193 runs.
7. Kumar Sangakkara – 219 vs India in 2010
The former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper scored his seventh double century against India in July 2010 in Colombo. It came in a drawn game. Sri Lanka made 642/4d and 129/3d in two innings, while India made 707 in the inning they batted. Sangakkara scored 219 in the first inning.
8. Kumar Sangakkara – 211 vs Pakistan in 2011
Sangakkara scored his eighth double century in October 2011 against Pakistan. It was the first of three games in Abu Dhabi. Sri Lanka made 197 in first inning, and Pakistan replied with 511/6 declared. In the second inning, Sangakkara scored 211, and Sri Lanka made 411. Pakistan got a target of 170 runs, but when they were 21/1, it ended in a draw.
9. Kumar Sangakkara – 319 vs Bangladesh in 2014
Sangakkara scored his ninth double century in February 2014 against Bangladesh. In fact, it was his maiden triple century. He made 319 and 105 in two innings, and the game ended in a draw. Sri Lanka made 587 and 305/4d, while Bangladesh made 426 and 271/3.
10 Kumar Sangakkara – 221 vs Pakistan in 2014
In August 2014, Sangakkara became only the second batter to score ten double centuries in test cricket. He achieved this landmark by scoring a double hundred against Pakistan at Galle. Pakistan made 451 and Sri Lanka replied it with 533/9. Sangakkara made 221 in the first inning. Pakistan got all out for 180, and Sri Lanka got a target of 99, and they made it with seven wickets in hand.
11. Kumar Sangakkara – 203 vs New Zealand in 2015
The 11th and final double century for the Sri Lankan legend came in the losing cause. He made it in January 2015 against New Zealand in Wellington. New Zealand scored 221 runs in the first inning, and Sri Lanka scored 356 with Sangakkara scoring 203 runs. In the second inning, New Zealand batted well and declared at 524/5, setting a target of 390. Sri Lanka made 196 and lost the game by 93 runs.
