Karachi Kings is one of the most consistent teams in the Pakistan Super League. They have always worked on a good balance. That is the reason this team has never been dismissed below 100 in the history of the league. The Kings won the PSL championship in the 2020 season, when they won the final against the Lahore Qalandars by 5 wickets.
But because T20 cricket is very unpredictable, every strong team can also have some off days. That is what we will talk about in this article. It will include the lowest totals for the Karachi Kings so far as they have registered in the PSL. So let’s check out the complete list.
3. Karachi Kings (111/9) vs Islamabad United in 2016
The third lowest total for the Kings came in the very first season, and that too in Qualifier 2. They locked horns against Islamabad United at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. Islamabad won the toss and put the Kings to bat first, and their bowlers did an amazing job. Karachi Kings started poorly, losing their first four wickets for just 39 runs in 8.2 overs. Skipper Ravi Bopara tried to stay for a long time.
But he too got out on a 36-ball 37. Eventually, the Kings could only manage a total of 111/9 in their entire 20 overs. It was an easy target to chase, and that is what happened in the second inning. Islamabad needed just 14.2 overs to chase it down, winning by nine wickets. Dwayne Smith (50* off 48) and Brad Haddin (52* off 29) completed the formalities.
2. Karachi Kings (109/9) vs Peshawar Zalmi in 2019
Karachi Kings registered their second lowest PSL score in the 2019 season, which came against Peshawar Zalmi at the Sharjah Stadium. After winning the toss, Kings asked Zalmi to bat first. In the first inning, Zalmi had some struggles, as five of their batters registered a duck. Imam-ul-Haq led the way and made sure to take his team to a decent score of 153/8. He made 56 off 43.
It didn’t appear to be a big target to chase. But the Karachi Kings lost their first three wickets for just 15 runs. Hasan Ali didn’t let the Karachi batters score freely and bowled a brilliant spell of 4/15. As a result, Karachi could manage only 109/9 and registered their lowest PSL total. They lost the game by 44 runs.
1. Karachi Kings (108/9) vs Peshawar Zalmi in 2021
Both lowest PSL scores for the Karachi Kings are registered in a match against the Peshawar Zalmi. However, the lowest one came in the 2021 season at the Abu Dhabi Ground. Zalmi won the toss and decided to bowl first, and they did a brilliant job with the ball in their hands. Kings lost their first three wickets for just 12 runs in 3 overs. And they were not able to recover from that point.
Thus, the whole team was restricted to their lowest total. They made 108/9 in their 20 overs. In reply, Hazratullah Zazai gave Peshawar Zalmi a rocking start to their chase. He scored a 17-ball fifty and made 63 off 26 balls, with 8 fours and 4 sixes, to help Zalmi reach the target in 11 overs. They made 109/4 and won by six wickets.
