Pakistan Super League started in 2016 with a total of five teams in its inaugural season. The Karachi Kings were one of the five teams that competed in the inaugural season. Although it didn’t start well for them, they ended up in fourth place. But over the years, they improved their performance. Then, in 2020, they won their maiden PSL title.
They beat the Lahore Qalandars in the final to win the tournament. A total of seven players have led this franchise in the PSL, including Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who led them in 2022. 4. Shoaib Malik (PSL Captain 2016)
Veteran Pakistan captain, who led them in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, was also the first player to lead Karachi Kings in the PSL. Shoaib Malik joined the team in 2016 and played until the next season in 2017. During his tenure, he led the franchise in eight games, winning two and losing six. Malik was part of 19 games for them and scored 359 runs and took four wickets with the ball.
3. Kumar Sangakkara (Captain of PSL in 2017)
Some international stars have also represented the franchise in the PSL’s history. One such name was former Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who was part of the Karachi franchise in the 2017 season and was the captain for that season as well. Under him, the team played 10 games and won five and lost five and ended third in the tournament. In those ten games, he scored 215 runs, with a best of 65.
2. Babar Azam (PSL 2022 captain)
Babar Azam is certainly the biggest name from Pakistan in modern-day cricket. He is leading his country across all three formats and became the captain of the Karachi Kings in the 2022 season. Although it didn’t work well, the franchise had its worst season in 2022. Under Babar, they lost nine out of ten games in the season. Babar was part of the franchise from 2017 until the 2022 season. He played 66 games and scored 2398 runs, including 23 half-centuries.
1. Iman Wasim (led Karachi Kings to 2020 win)
After Kumar Sangakkara left the PSL after the 2017 season, all-rounder Imad Wasim became the captain of the team. He was part of the team since its inaugural season in 2016 and became the face of the team. Wasim led Karachi Kings to their first PSL championship in 2020. So far, he has captained in 41 games, winning 20, losing 17, tying two, and having two games end in a tie. He has been an asset for the franchise, scoring 682 runs and taking 42 wickets for them so far.
