Javed Miandad was the legendary Pakistani batter who set the standard very high for batting. He also led his country across formats and was the highest run-scorer in the longest format for Pakistan at the time of his retirement. Miandad made his test debut in October 1976 against New Zealand in Lahore and became only the second Pakistani batter to score a century on debut.
He scored 163 runs in his debut inning, and Pakistan won that game by six wickets. It was the start of a legendary career. He served his country for 17 years. In his test career, Miandad played 124 tests and scored 8832 runs at an average of 52.57, with a best of 280 not out. He scored 23 centuries, including six double hundreds. 1. Javed Miandad – 206 vs New Zealand in October 1976
Miandad started his test career with a century (163) on debut. However, it didn’t take long for him to score his maiden double hundred. He made his debut in the first game of the three tests, in October 1976, against New Zealand. He scored his first double ton in the third test of his debut series in Karachi. Miandad scored 206 runs in the first inning and 85 in the second inning. However, the game ended in a draw.
2. Javed Miandad – 280 not out vs India in January 1983
The Pakistani legend made his second double ton in January 1983 against India in Hyderabad (Sind). It was the fourth test of the six-match series, and Miandad made an unbeaten 280 with 19 fours and one six in the first inning. Pakistan declared at 581/3 and dismissed India for 189 and 273 to win the game by an inning and 119 runs.
3. Javed Miandad – 203 not out vs Sri Lanka in October 1985
Miandad made his third triple hundred in October 1985 against Sri Lanka. It was the first of three tests in Faisalabad. Batting first, Sri Lanka made 479 runs in 200.3 overs for a period of two and a half days. In response, Pakistan batted for 162.3 overs and made 555/3, and the game ended in a draw. Skipper Miandad remained not out on 203 runs, while Qasim Umar (206) also scored a double hundred.
4. Javed Miandad – 260 vs England in August 1987
The fourth double ton for Miandad came in August 1987. It was the fifth and final test of Pakistan’s tour of England at the Oval. Batting first, Pakistan went on to score a huge target of 708 in 220.3 overs. Miandad scored 260 runs, with 28 fours and one six. England made 232 and 315/4 in two innings, and with not much time left, the game ended in a draw.
5. Javed Miandad – 211 vs Australia in September 1988
Miandad smashed his fifth test double against Australia in September 1988. Australia came to Pakistan for three tests, and it was the first game in Karachi. Pakistan batted first and declared the inning at 469-9 in 169.5 overs. Skipper Miandad made a brilliant 211 with 29 fours and one six. With the ball, Pakistan dismissed the visitors for 165 and 116 to win by an inning and 188 runs.
6. Javed Miandad – 271 vs New Zealand in February 1989
The Pakistani legend scored his sixth and final double century in February 1989 against New Zealand in an away game. It was the third test in Auckland, and Pakistan batted first and scored 616/5 in the first inning. Miandad scored 271 runs with 28 fours and five sixes. New Zealand made 403 and 99/3 when the game ended in a draw.
