Islamabad United: The Pakistan Super League came into being in 2016, and now it has become one of the most successful leagues in the world. So far, six teams have won the PSL championship, but only one has done so twice. And it is the Islamabad United. The United won the PSL in 2016 and 2018.
But with every strong side, there are some bad days as well. There are some days when they have also been thrown out for a low score. In this article, we will cover the list of lowest totals for Islamabad United in the history of the Pakistan Super League. Notably, since the 2018 win, this team hasn’t reached the PSL final yet.
3. Islamabad United (117 all out) vs Quetta Gladiators in 2016
The third lowest PSL score for Islamabad United came in the inaugural season of 2016. It is registered against Quetta Gladiators at the Sharjah Stadium. After winning the toss Quetta put the United to bat first. And their bowlers did a really good job. Despite a resolute effort from the skipper, Shane Watson, no other batter showed any fight. Watson made 40 off 28 balls, and the next-best player was Imran Khalid (18).
Thus, the United registered their third lowest score. They got all out for 117 runs in 19.1 overs. In reply, Quetta also lost their first two wickets for just 14 runs in 2.3 overs, but they recovered well. Quetta chased down the target in 16.1 overs and made 118/3, which helped them win the game by seven wickets. Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was not out on 51 off 39 balls for Quetta.
2. Islamabad United (105/7) vs Lahore Qalandars in 2022
The second lowest total for the two-time PSL winner came in the 2022 season. It was the 29th game against the Multan Sultans at Lahore Stadium. The United won the toss and chose to bat first. And they showed a poor display of batting. The United lost their wickets regularly and hit only eight fours and two sixes in their entire quota of 20 overs. They were 77/7 in 16.2 overs and were looking to get dismissed cheaply.
But Muhammad Musa scored an unbeaten 26 off 21 balls to take them over the 100-run mark. In the end, the United registered their second lowest total of 105/7 in their 20 overs. In response, the Multan Sultans chased down the target with six wickets in hand. They made 111/4 in 17.3 overs with the help of skipper Mohammad Rizwan (51* off 42).
1. Islamabad United (82 all out) vs Karachi Kings in 2017
Islamabad United has been dismissed below 100 only once. And it was in the 2017 season against the Karachi Kings. It was a low-scoring thriller in the second qualifier of that season. The United won the toss and decided to bowl first. They bowled brilliantly and didn’t let any batters from the Karachi Kings score freely. As a result, the Kings were dismissed for 126 runs in 19.4 overs.
It was a low-scoring game, and no one thought the Kings could make a comeback. But then came the twist in the second inning. Chasing the target, the United lost first two wickets in first three overs. Asif Ali stayed for a while for his 39 off 35. But apart from him, no one got going at all, and only skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (13) reached the double digits. As a result, they got all out for 82 runs in 15.2 overs and lost the qualifier to get kicked out of the competition.
