Islamabad United is the most successful franchise in the Pakistan Super League. They are the only PSL team to win the competition twice, including the inaugural season in 2016. Then they once again won their second season in 2018. Although they haven’t won an edition since then, they have some really good records in the competition.
In a total of seven seasons of the PSL, there have been seven players who have captained this team. Star Pakistani all-rounder Shabad Khan is the current captain and will be leading the team in the upcoming season. 4. Asif Ali (Captain in PSL 2022)
Pakistan’s star finisher, Asif Ali, has been with the franchise since the first season in 2016. He was key member in winning season in 2016 and 2018. He is also the second-leading wicket-taker for the team. Asif has played 67 games for them and scored 1016 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 158.75. During his stint with the team, he has also captained the team in three games in 2022 in the absence of Shadab Khan.
3. Mohammad Sami (PSL 2019 Captain)
Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Sami was part of the team from 2016 through 2019. Thus, when Misbah-ul-Haq stepped down from the captaincy after 2018, Sami became the captain. He led full-time in the 2019 season, which was his last PSL edition. Under him, Islamabad played nine games, winning four and losing five. Sami played 36 games for them and scored 42 wickets, with a best of 5/8.
2. Shadab Khan (Captain since 2019 to 2023)
Star all-rounder Shadab Kah is the current captain of the team in the PSL. He took charge after Mohammad Sami left the captaincy. He became the full-time champion after the 2019 season and until now doing amazing captaincy job. Under his leadership, the team finished third in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Shadab has led in a total of 32 games and has 17 wins and 15 defeats to his name. He has taken 65 wickets in 61 games for the franchise.
1. Misbah-ul-Haq (led Islamabad United to 2016 and 2018 PSL win)
Former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was the first ever player to lead the Islamabad franchise in the Pakistan Super League. Meanwhile, he is also the only captain to lead a PSL franchise to victory in two seasons. He was the captain when the Islamabad United to glory in the 2016 and 2018 seasons, respectively. Under him, they played 26 games and won 15, lost 10 and one game ended in a tie. He scored 381 runs in 26 games in his PSL career.
