The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League ended with a new champion. It was the new IPL team Gujarat Titans that went on to win their first ever title in their maiden season. The last edition was a 10-team tournament, which is why many believe that it was the best season of all time. However, the fans are now waiting for its upcoming edition in 2023.
Fans are also expecting it to be bigger and more entertaining than the previous one. And as per the governing IPL authority, it has been declared that the mini-auction will take place in December for the 2023 season. The last edition of the IPL saw the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants make their debuts.

IPL Auction 2023: Date and Time
As per some media reports, it is confirmed that the mini-auction will take place on December 23 (Friday). On the other hand, earlier, there were three venues shortlisted for the auction in December. Those were Turkey, Bangalore, and Istanbul. However, now it is confirmed that the auction will take place in Kochi. A total of approximately 650 players will come under the hammer. Last time, MI made Ishan Kishan (INR 15 cr) the costliest player. So it will be interesting to see which player breaks the bank this time around.
IPL Auction 2023: Rules and Conditions
There are some rules and conditions made by the governing IPL authority for all 10 teams in the auction. The first thing to note is that the upcoming auction will not be as grand as the last one. Furthermore, all the franchises will have the option of retaining most of their players for the next IPL edition. But the mini-auction will see the release and purchase of some players as per the team’s requirements.
- All the teams will have the option of using the RTM (Right to Match) card. It will help the team pick their players back in their side in case those players match the highest bid.
- A team will sign a maximum of 25 players, including its retained players. The list of 25 players can include a maximum of 8 overseas players.
- There will be a trading window for the IPL franchises. It will help the teams exchange a player with another franchise as per their requirements before sending the final sheet to the IPL governing authority.
- All franchises will have a purse value of INR 95 crore, which is INR 5 crore more than the previous auction.
- A team must use a minimum of 75% of their purse value to pick the players in the auction.
IPL Auction 2023: Retained Player List
However, all the teams have yet to announce their retained player lists. The last date to submit the name is November 15. However, it is quite clear which four players these teams will retain. So here is the list of likely players who will be retained.
