IPL 2022: After 15 days of tough cricket, the picture of the top four teams has started to take shape. Some of the teams are looking like clear contenders for the playoff stage. But the competition is very tough as a win or loss here and there can change the whole scenario in the points table.
On Wednesday, April 13, the Mumbai Indians will lock horns against the Punjab Kings in the 23rd match of the TATA IPL 2022. The match will start at 7:30 PM at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The five-time champions are the only team in the competition right now that hasn’t won a single game. However, PBKS has two wins and two losses under their belt. Can PBKS get their third win, or will MI break their losing streak? So let’s check the complete match details and possible XI for both teams.
TATA IPL 2022: PBKS vs MI: Match Preview and Prediction
The most successful IPL franchise has a knack for starting the season with a few losses. But this is getting worse for them after every match. They have faced defeat in all four matches this season. And they are in for an early exit from the competition. The team is facing many issues within their playing XI. The batters are struggling to make runs and the bowlers are doing everything apart from taking wickets.
That has led them to 10th place in the points table. Skipper Rohit Sharma is struggling to score runs, as is veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard. Since the return of Suryakumar Yadav to the team, he has notched two 50+ scores, but both in vain. However, it must give confidence to the Mumbai Paltan. Their bowling is not at all performing, and their overseas pacers are also leaking runs. There might be a few changes to the playing XI, especially in the bowling department.
Probably XI: Rohit Sharma(C), Ishan Kishan(Wk), Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Fabian Allen/Tim David, Murugan Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills.
The Mayank Agarwal-led team, the Punjab Kings, have had a roller coaster type of season so far. They started with a win over RCB, then lost the second match against KKR, then won their third one against CSK, and lost the last match against Gujarat Titans. And now they are up against a team that had a really good overall record against Punjab. Skipper Agrawal is currently struggling with his own form, and Jonny Bairstow also had a disappointing outing in his first game.
But there are a few positive and consistent performers on the team. Liam Livingstone has been phenomenal in the last two matches. The English all-rounder has scored two consecutive half-centuries in very quick time. Bowlers are also doing a decent job. But it is just a question of the fifth bowling option in the team that cost them the last match against the Gujarat Titans. However, we might see one or two changes in the playing XI.
Probably XI: Mayank Agarwal(C), Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow(Wk), Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan, Odean Smith, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Vaibhav Arora, Arshdeep Singh.
IPL 2022: Punjab vs Mumbai Match, Pitch and Toss Update
The pitch at the Maharashtra Cricket Association is good for pace bowling as it offers swing and bounce at the start. As a result, the pacers from both teams will enjoy bowling on this track. Batsmen can use the bounce to good effect. The average score here is 165. Dew might come into play in the second innings, and it will always be a challenge for the bowlers to hold the grip. Bowling first will be ideal on this pitch. The team winning the toss will go to the field first. But so far, in the four matches played here, two matches each have been won h batting first and batting second.
PBKS vs MI Head to Head Stats
Both teams have met a total of 27 times in the history of the IPL. But MI is just marginally ahead in terms of wins. So far, the Mumbai Indians have won 14 matches, as compared to PBKS’s 13 wins. However, PBKS has won three out of the last five matches played between the two.
IPL 2022: PBKS vs MI: Players to watch out for
Suryakumar Yadav has ended up as a lone warrior for MI in the last two games. He has scored two back-to-back half-centuries this season. The right-hander played a knock of 52 off 36 balls in the first match against KKR. Then he followed it up with another fantastic knock of 68* off 37 balls. But both innings went in vain as MI lost all the matches. But, as per his current form, he is the one batter to watch out for.
Murugan Ashwin is doing well in the Mumbai kit this season. But he needs to be more consistent as he is the only spinner in the playing XI. He has also taken a few wickets in this competition, but being a leg-spinner, you always have a chance to take wickets.
Liam Livingstone has been the best batter for the Punjab Kings this season. The English all-rounder is the highest run-scorer for PBKS. He has scored 162 runs in four matches, including two half-centuries, at an incredible strike rate of 190.58. And, based on his recent batting form, he is capable of dismantling any bowling attack.
Rahul Chahar is having a great season so far. The young leg-spinner has taken seven wickets so far at an economy rate of 6.31. He has been taking wickets in the middle overs and restricting the scoring rate as well.
IPL 2022: Predicted 11 team of the match Prediction
Wicket-keeper: Jonny Bairstow (PBKS), Ishan Kishan (MI)
Batsmen: Rohit Sharma (MI), Shikhar Dhawan (PBKS), Suryakumar Yadav (MI)
All-rounders: Liam Livingstone (PBKS), Dewald Brevis (MI)
Bowlers: Jaidev Unadkat (MI), Basil Thampi (MI), Rahul Chahar (PBKS), Arshdeep Singh (PBKS)
Tips: Liam Livingstone will be the captain of the team. Rohit Sharma will be the vice-captain. Both teams are batting heavily, but MI has played their previous matches on this pitch before. So we will back MI to win the match. However, the team winning the toss might win the game as well.
