Team India has been part of the ODI World Cup since its start in 1975. They couldn’t do much in the first two editions, in 1975 and 1979, and won only one game in two World Cups. But then they surprised everyone when they beat the World Champion West Indies to become only the second team to lift the biggest cricket trophy in 1983.
That really kicked off India’s journey. Then, MS Dhoni led India to the 2011 World Cup. India has been a strong team in this tournament and has many records to its name. India was the first team to score over 400 in a World Cup inning. And here we will talk about the highest totals for India in the ODI World Cup stage.

India’s third-highest World Cup total came against Bangladesh in the 2011 World Cup. It was registered in the very first game of the tournament in Mirpur. Bangladesh won the toss and bowled first. India got off to a brilliant start with a 69-run opening stand between Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar (28). Then, Sehwag had another 83-run stand with Gautam Gambhir (39). But after that, India had a massive 203-run third-wicket partnership.
Sehwag smashed a big century and made 175 off 140 balls, including 14 fours and five sixes. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 100 off 83 balls, with two sixes and eight fours.
