Sunrisers Hyderabad made their IPL debut in 2013 and caught the attention of the fans with a playoff appearance in their debut season. 1. 2013 season – (Playoffs)
SRH reached the playoffs in their maiden season in the league. They played their first season in 2013, and their entry made the tournament a nine-team affair. They won 10 games out of 16 in the group stage and finished in fourth place. SRH faced Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator of the tournament. Batting first, SRH made 132/7 and RR made 135/6 to win by four wickets.
2. 2016 season – Winner
After 2013, SRH made their second playoff in 2016 season and this time they took it way forward. After winning 8 out of 14 group matches, SRH finished third in the group stage. They faced KKR in the Eliminator and won by 22 runs to move on to Qualifier 2. In that game, they registered another win against the Gujarat Lions to make their first IPL final. In the final, they played against RCB and won by 8 runs to win their maiden IPL title.
3. 2017 season – (Playoffs)
After winning the 2016 season, SRH made the playoffs in the next season of 2017 as well. They were third in the group with 8 wins out of 14 games. But they couldn’t defend their title and lost the Eliminator to KKR by seven wickets. Their season ended at fourth place.
4. 2018 season – Runners-up
However, after failing to defend their title in 2017, SRH showed a better performance in 2018. Under the leadership of Kane Williamson, they topped the group with nine wins out of 14. But they lost Qualifier 1 to CSK by two wickets and were forced to play in Qualifier 2. In the next game, they faced KKR and won that game by 14 runs to make it to their second IPL final. However, they fell short against CSK once more, losing the final by 8 wickets to finish as runners-up.
5. 2019 season – (Playoffs)
The 2019 season was also a decent one for Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, they were lucky that they qualified for the playoffs. SRH, KKR, and PBKS all had 12 points each, but the Sunrisers had a better NRR, which helped them qualify for the playoffs. But in the Eliminator, they lost to DC by a close margin of two wickets, which ended their journey in fourth place.
6. 2020 season – (Playoffs)
In the 2020 season, SRH made their sixth playoff appearance in the UAE. This time as well, due to a better NRR than RCB and KKR, they finished the group stage in third place with seven wins out of 14 games. The Orange Army faced the RCB in the Eliminator and won the game by 6 wickets to make it to Qualifier 2. But they couldn’t repeat their performance and lost to DC, and their journey ended in third place.
