Hobart Hurricanes: We are just a few weeks away from the start of one of the biggest T20 cricket leagues in the world. It will be the 12th edition of the Big Bash League in Australia. The season opener will be played between the Sydney Sixers and the Melbourne Stars at Manuka Oval on December 13. This edition will feature 61 games, with the final to take place on February 4.
The two-time BBL finalists, the Hobart Hurricanes, will hope to win their maiden titles in the upcoming season. They played two finals in the 2013 and 2017 seasons but couldn’t make it to the other side. Thus, it will be another big chance for them. 3. Hobart Hurricanes (213/2) vs Sydney Sixers in 2021
The third-highest BBL total for the Hobart Hurricanes came in the 2021 edition against the Sydney Sixers. It was the eighth game of the season at the SCG. The Hurricanes won the toss and chose to bat first, and their batters proved that decision right. They had two brilliant partnerships for the first two wickets to take them past the 200-run mark. Skipper Matthew Wade, along with D’Arcy Short, added 111 runs in 11.2 overs.
Then, Short added another 92 runs for the second wicket with Caleb Jewell (42 off 23). Short made an unbeaten 73 off 51 with seven fours and three sixes. However, Wade scored 93 off just 46 balls, including nine fours and five sixes. Thus, the Hurricanes made their third highest score of 213/2. In reply, the Sixers only managed 151/4 in their chase. Thus, the Hurricanes won the game by 44 runs using the D/L method.
2. Hobart Hurricanes (217/1) vs Adelaide Strikers in 2020
The second highest totals for the Hobart Hurricanes are against the Adelaide Strikers. It came in the 2020 season during the 55th game at the Adelaide Oval. The Hurricanes won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, they had a record opening partnership, which took them over 200 runs. The pair of D’Arcy Short and skipper Mathew Wade added 203 runs for the first wicket.
Short got out after scoring 72 runs off 55 balls, with four boundaries and four sixes. On the other hand, Wade carried his bat through the innings and scored a brilliant century. He made an unbeaten 130 off 61 balls, with 11 fours and 7 sixes. Thus, the Hurricanes reached a big total of 217/1 in their 20 overs. It was a big total to chase, but the Strikers also batted pretty well. They also crossed the 200-run mark but fell short by just 10 runs and made 207/8. As a result, the Hurricanes won the game.
1. Hobart Hurricanes (223/8) vs Melbourne Renegades in 2017
The Hobart Hurricanes have crossed the 200-run mark in the BBL in a total of nine games. And their highest score is registered against the Melbourne Renegades. It came in the 24th game of the 2017 season at Docklands Stadium. The Hurricanes won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, the Renegades had a brilliant batting performance. They made a massive total of 222/4 in their 20 overs. It was a huge target to chase back then and needed a good start.
Chasing the target, the Renegades lost their skipper Tim Paine for a golden duck in the first over, which put pressure on them. But then, Ben McDermott and George Bailey added a huge partnership of 151 runs for the third wicket, which helped them reach the target. Bailey made 59 off 42 balls, while McDermott scored a brilliant century. McDermott made 114 runs off 52 balls, including 8 fours and 9 sixes. Eventually, the Renegades chased down the score on the very last ball. They made 223/8 in 20 overs and won by two wickets.
