3. Australia (197/7) against Pakistan in the 2010 World Cup
This was the second semi-final of the 2010 World Cup between Pakistan and Australia at Gros Islet. Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. But it was a really good batting display from the Men in Green. They posted a big total of 191/6. Kamran Akmal (50 off 34) and Umar Kamal (56 off 35) were the top scorers.
Chasing the target, the Men in Yellow lost their four wickets for 62 runs. But they kept on scoring runs and took the match until the very last over. Needing 18 runs from the last over, Pakistan were the favorites to win. But an unbelievable cameo helped Australia to win. He hit Saeed Ajmal for three sixes and one four and won the match. Australia registered the third highest run chase in the T20 World Cup.
2. South Africa (208/2) against West Indies in the 2007 World Cup
The second highest run chase came in the very first match of the inaugural edition of the World Cup in 2007. This was the match between South Africa and the West Indies at Johannesburg. Batting first, the Caribbean team posted a huge total of 205/6, courtesy of a brilliant century by Chris Gayle. The left-hander scored 117 off just 57 balls.
Chasing the target, the Proteas had a really decent start and openers added 54 runs. But the third wicket partnership of 120 runs off just 57 balls took the match in favor of South Africa. Herschelle Gibbs scored 90 runs and Justin Kemp scored 46 off 22 balls to register the second highest run chase in the T20 World Cup.
1 England (230/8) against South Africa in the 2016 World Cup
This was the match that saw a total of 459 runs scored in 37.4 overs. This match also registered the second and third highest totals scored in T20 World Cup history. It was the 18th match between England and South Africa at Wankhede. Batting first, South Africa made a huge total of 229/4 runs with the help of Hashim Amla (58), De Kock (52) and JP Duminy (54).
While chasing the target, the English team also went through a few little partnerships. Jason Roy smashed 43 off just 16 balls to give his team a rocking start. But it was Joe Root who held the innings together and kept scoring runs as well. England chased down that mammoth total in 19.4 overs and won the match by two wickets. Root won the “Man of the Match” for his knock of 83 off 44.
