3. CSK (246/5) vs Rajasthan Royals in 2010
The four-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, have registered the third highest score in IPL history. It came in the 32nd match of the 2010 season against the Rajasthan Royals at Chennai. It was CSK that won the toss and chose to bat first. They had a great start with both openers adding 62 runs for the first wicket in 5.5 overs. But the game-changing partnership came between Murali Vijay and Albie Morkel for the third wicket.
Both batters added 152 runs off just 66 balls and took CSK to a big total. Morkel made 62 off 34, with three fours and five sixes. Vijay scored a brilliant century and made 127 off 56 balls, with 8 fours and 11 sixes. CSK registered the third highest IPL total (highest at that time) and made 246/5 in 20 overs. However, Rajasthan also batted pretty well and came close to the target. RR made 223/5 and lost the match by 23 runs.
2. RCB (248/3) vs Gujarat Lions in 2016
Both the top two IPL totals are registered under the name of Royal Challengers Banglaore. RCB haven’t won an IPL title yet, but they came close in 2016 when they reached the finals. In the same season, they registered the second highest total against Gujarat Lions at Bengaluru. It was the 44th match of the tournament. Batting first, RCB lost Chris Gayle (6) early, which brought AB de Villiers to the crease.
And after that, the rest is history. He, along with skipper Virat Kohli, registered a record-breaking partnership of 229 runs for the second wicket in 96 balls and both batters got centuries. Virat made 109 off 55 balls with five fours and eight sixes, while ABD was not out on 52-ball 129, hitting 10 fours and 12 sixes. RCB made a massive total of 248/3. In reply, Gujarat had a contrasting performance as they got all out for 104 runs in 18.4 overs and RCB recorded a 144 run victory in the game.
1. RCB (263/5) vs Pune Warriors in 2013
The highest and mammoth IPL total came in the 2013 season when RCB locked horns with Pune Warriors in the 31st game of the tournament. Pune won the toss and asked RCB to bat first. And it was complete carnage from the biggest hitter of the ball, Chris Gayle. He single-handedly bashed all the bowlers into all parts of the ground. That match saw the highest IPL total and the highest individual score in IPL.
Gayle went on to score a big century and made 175 not out off just 66 balls with 13 fours and 17 sixes. RCB scored a record-breaking total of 263/5 in their 20 overs and set the record for the highest IPL total. In reply, Pune could only manage 133/9 in their batting innings and lost the match by 130 runs. Gayle won the Player of the Match award for his big century.
