3. Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis (CSK) 181/0 against Punjab Kings in IPL 2020
It was the 18th match of the IPL 2020 season in Dubai between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Punjab won the toss and decided to bat first. They had a really good start and skipper KL Rahul scored a half-century. With the help of some other batters, Punjab scored 178/4 in their 20 overs.
It was a decent target, but what happened next was a complete domination. Both CSK openers took the attack to the bowlers and scored runs at will. Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis chased down the target by themselves and made 181 runs in 17.4 overs. CSK won the match without losing any wickets. Watson scored 83 runs and Du Plessis made 87 runs. Both openers remained unbeaten to seal the deal for their teams.
3. Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir (KKR) 184/0 against Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017
The second highest score came in a match between Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2017 IPL season. It was the third match of the season at Rajkot, and KKR won the toss and elected to bowl first. Gujarat started steadily but picked up the pace in the middle. Skipper Suresh Raina made an unbeaten 68* off 51 balls, while Dinesh Karthik scored 47 off 25 balls. As a result, Gujarat Lions scored 183/4 in their 20 overs.
It was a competitive total to defend and it looked like KKR might have a difficult task on their hand. But KKR’s openers had something different in their mind. The chase was led by Chris Lynn began and didn’t stop until they reached the win. Lynn, along with Gautam Gambhir, smashed bowlers to all parts of the ground and scored all the runs without losing any wickets. KKR chased down the target in just 14.5 overs and made 184 runs. Lynn made 93* off 41 balls, including six fours and eight sixes. Gambhir was not out of 76* off 48 balls.
1. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul (LSG) 210/0 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022
The highest partnership for opening wicket came in the 2022 season. It was the 66th match of the tournament between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders. This ended with a nail-biting finish. It was LSG that won the toss and decided to bat first. Both openers, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, played steadily, but then they picked up the pace. Skipper Rahul was playing the second fiddle. On the other hand, De Kock was at his absolute best.
The left-hander smashed the highest score by any wicket-keeper in the IPL and made 140*68 runs off just 70 balls, including 10 fours and 10 sixes. Rahul was also not out for 68* off 51 balls. LSG made 210 runs in their 20 overs. But in reply, KKR also batted really well to get close to the target. In fact, they appeared to be winning the match at one point thanks to some good death bowling, which ultimately prevented KKR from winning. They lost the match by just 2 runs in the end.
