Mumbai Indians – 202/5 vs Chennai Super Kings in 2015 IPL final
Mumbai Indians have won five out of the six IPL finals that they have appeared in. That is why they are the most successful IPL team in the tournament. The third highest total in the IPL final is registered under their name. It happened during the 2015 season at Eden Gardens against the Chennai Super Kings. After winning the toss, CSK chose to bowl first. MI lost opener Parthiv Patel for a duck.
But after that, Lendl Simmons (68) and skipper Rohit Sharma (50 off 26) made half centuries. Kieron Pollard (36 off 18) and Ambati Rayudu (36* off 24) gave them a good end. As a result, MI made the fourth highest total of the IPL final of 202/5 in their first inning. Chasing the target, CSK didn’t have a significant contribution by any batter. As a result, CSK only managed 161/8 and lost the game by 41 runs. Thus, MI won their second IPL title.
Chennai Super Kings – 205/5 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011 final
The four-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, hold the record for the third highest total in the IPL final. It came in the 2011 season against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. CSK won the toss and decided to bat first. They had an excellent start, with both openers adding 159 runs for the first wicket in just 14.5 overs. Michael Hussey made 63 off 45, while Murali Vijay scored a brilliant 95 off just 52 balls.
This game is a brilliant platform for the other batters to finish strong. In the end, CSK ended up crossing the 200-run mark. They made a massive 205/5 in their first inning to register the second-highest total in the IPL final. However, RCB couldn’t bat like that in their chase. They lost their six wickets for just 70 runs in 10.2 overs and scored 147/8 to lose by 58 runs. Thus, CSK won their second IPL title in 2011.
Sunrisers Hyderabad 208/7 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016
Sunrisers Hyderabad won their maiden IPL title in the 2016 season under the leadership of David Warner. They faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. It was a high-scoring final that produced over 400 runs. Batting first, SRH had a brilliant start, with skipper Warner scoring 69 off 38 balls, with 8 fours and three sixes. Apart from him, Yuvraj Singh (38 off 23) and Ben Cutting (39* off 15) played good cameos.
As a result, SRH registered the second highest IPL final total of 208/7 in their inning. However, it wasn’t a big total against a strong RCB batting lineup that had Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, KL Rahul, and Shane Watson. That is what happened: Virat (54 off 35) and Gayle (76 off 38) added 114 for the first wicket in just 10.3 overs, and it looked like RCB would reach the target easily. But it didn’t happen and RCB made lost the way in the middle. They fell short by 8 runs and made 200/7 to lose the final.
Highest Score in IPL Final by Player
Shane Watson holds the highest Individual score in an IPL final match. He scored 117 (not out) against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018. Chennai Super Kings went on the win that final match. Recently an Uncapped Indian player, Sai Sudharsan playing for Gujarat Titans scored 96 runs in the final match of IPL 2023 against CSK.
