South Africa’s highest run chase in the T20 international came in the 1st match of the T20 World Cup 2007 against West Indies, where West Indies got the chance to bat first and they added a total of 205 runs on the scoreboard. South Africa needed 206 runs to win the match, they needed a good start and they got it.
The South Africa skipper Graeme Smith along with Herschelle Gibbs came out to the middle to chase the target and made 54 runs at the run rate of over 10 for the 1st wicket. But Herschelle Gibbs was in a different mood, he stood there on the pitch till the end of the match and struck amazingly 90 runs from 55 balls and remained not out. Justin Kemp, on the other hand, also performed well and struck unbeaten 46 runs off 22 balls.
Both Gibbs and Kemp remained not out and their innings helped South Africa to chase the target and made 208 for 2 and thus registered a record of the highest chase in T20 by South Africa.
