Zimbabwe got the chance to bat first after winning the toss and added 200 runs on the scoreboard. The Kiwis got the target of 201 runs to win the match, then the Kiwis openers started superbly by hitting 103 runs in a pair for the first wicket. Rob Nicol added 56 runs from just 37 balls whereas James Franklin contributed 60 runs off 37 balls. The partnership of 103 between Nicol and Franklin released the pressure from the other batters and made the target easy. Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson completed the rest of the work and achieved the target easily by making 202 runs and winning the match by 5 wickets.
