T20 World Cup: Bangladesh has been one of the surprise packages when it comes to big tournaments like World Cups. They have always tried their best to perform in the ICC events and have surprised some of the big teams. However, when it comes to the T20 World Cup, their best performance came in the inaugural season.
Bangladesh made it to the super right in 2007. Speaking of the highest partnership, they have six scores of over 100-run partnerships in T20 cricket, but in the World Cup they have two 100-run partnerships. 3. Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman (97 runs) against Oman in 2016 T20 event
It was the 12th match of the 2016 World T20 between BAN and Oman at Dharamsala. After winning the toss, Oman decided to bowl first. But Bangladesh had a good start with both openers adding 42 runs. But after that small partnership, Tamim Iqbal and Shabbir Rahman just batted brilliantly.
Both batsmen added 97 runs for the second wicket and took the score to 180/2 for their team in 20 overs. Tamim scored a brilliant century, Bangladesh’s only century in World T20. He scored an unbeaten score of 103* off 63 balls, including ten fours and five maximums. However, due to rain, the match was reduced to 12 overs in the second innings. Oman only scored 65 runs at the loss of nine wickets and lost the match by 54 runs.
2. Aftab Ahmed and Mohammad Ashraful (109 runs) against West Indies in 2007 World T20
The 2007 T20 World Cup was the best tournament for BD; they made it to the super 8. They played very good cricket throughout that season. Bangladesh had their second highest partnership in a match against the West Indies in Johannesburg. Batting first, the Caribbean team posted a score of 164/8 in their 20 overs with Devon Smith scoring 51 runs.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh had a bad start and lost their first two wickets for just 28 runs. But after that, Aftab Ahmed and Mohammad Ashraful held the innings together and added 109 runs for the third wicket. Both batters brought up their half-centuries. Bangladesh chased down the target with six wickets in hand and 12 balls to spare. Ashraful scored 61 runs off 27 balls and Aftab scored 62* off 49 balls.
1. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim (112 runs) against Australia in 2014 T20 World Cup
The highest partnership came in the 2014 World Cup in a match against Australia at Mirpur. After winning the toss, Bangladesh chose to bat first, but had a horrible start. They lost their openers by 12 runs. It brought two of their best batsmen to the crease. Then Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim played steadily and added 112 runs for the third wicket.
Shakib scored 66 runs, while Mushfiqur scored 44 to help their team reach a respectable score of 153/5 in their 20 overs. But it didn’t turn out to be a winning total against the strong Australian batting line-up. Both Australian openers added 98 runs for the first wicket and made it simple for other batters to chase. In the end, Australia won the match by 7 wickets.
