Highest Partnership in T20 World Cup by Australia

The defending champions will defend their T20 World Cup title at their home. Australia will host the upcoming T20 World Cup in October. The Men in Yellow will look to become the first team to win the championship twice. Notably, after the mighty Australian team won their maiden title last year in the UAE after a wait of 14 years.

But in this article, we will discuss the list of the highest partnership for the Aussies in the history of the T20 World Cup. Australia is arguably the best team in white-ball cricket but it took them 14 years to win the T20 World title. But they are a strong unit let’s check out the highest partnership for them.

3. Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell (118 runs) against Pakistan in 2014 ICC event

It was the 16th match of the 2014 World Cup between Australia and Pakistan at Mirpur. After winning the toss, Australia chose to bowl first. But the Men in Green played well and scored 191/5 in their 20 overs. Umra Akmal was the highest run-scorer who made 94 runs off 54 balls. Australia didn’t have a good start and lost the first two wickets in the very first over.

But after that, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch steadied the innings and added a partnership of 118 runs for the third wicket. Maxwell made 74 off 33 balls and Finch scored 65 runs off 54 balls. But once the partnership got broken, Pakistan bowled and took the game away and Australia got all out for 175 and lost the match. So this partnership came on a losing course.

2. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh (124 runs) against West Indies in 2021 ICC event

The second-highest partnership came in the last World Cup in the UAE. It was the match between Australia and West Indies in Abu Dhabi. Batting first, West Indies made 157/7 in their 20 overs. The Australian bowlers did a really good job, Josh Hazlewood picked up fours wickets in that match. Chasing the target, Australia lost the wicket of their skipper Aaron Finch (9) early. But after that Warner and Mitchell Marsh did the rest.

The duo added 124 runs for the second wicket to help their team to reach the target. Unfortunately, Marsh got out after a well-made 53 runs. But Warner carried on his bat throughout the innings and remained unbeaten. The left-hander scored an unbeaten 89* off 56 balls.

1. Shane Watson and David Warner (133 runs) against India in the 2012 T20 World Cup

The highest partnership for Australia came in the 2012 World Cup in a match against India at Colombo. After winning the toss, India chose to bat first but the Australian bowling attack did a decent job of restricting India to a below-par score. The men in blue scored 140/7 in their 20 overs and Shane Watson picked up three wickets. Chasing the target, both Australian openers added 133 runs for the opening wicket to help their team win the match.

Watson did a good job with the bat as well. He scored 72 off 42 balls, including two fours and seven sixes. On the other hand, David Warner remained unbeaten on 63* off 41 balls. Australia won that match with nine wickets and 31 balls to spare.
