In the history of the IPL, cricket lovers have witnessed some incredible partnerships on several occasions. When a team needs a big target or wants to add a big total on the scoreboard, they actually need a partnership and it has happened in the IPL history when batters added 200+ partnerships on 4 occasions. 229 Runs by Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers is the highest partnership in IPL which was made in 2016. The most interesting point to be noted here is that all the top 5 highest partnerships came for the 2nd wicket in IPL.

1. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers (229 Runs in 2016)

The pair of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers from Royal Challenger Bangalore is at the top position for making the highest partnership in the IPL. In the 44th match of the IPL 2016 against Gujrat Lions, RCB got the chance to bat first and they added 248 runs on the scoreboard. Kohli and AB performed incredibly and added 229 runs as the highest partnership in the history of the Indian Premier League. Kohli struck 109 runs and de Villiers added unbeaten 129 runs for their team, RCB won that match by 144 runs, and AB de Villiers was named Man of the Match. 

2. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers (215* Runs in 2015)

The duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers from Royal Challenger Bangalore is listed at the 2nd position for hitting IPL highest partnership. Royal Challenger Bangalore and Mumbai Indians faced each other in the 46th match of the IPL 2015, where RCB got the opportunity to bat first. The start was not good for them as they lost Chris Gayle at 20 runs only but then AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli took the situation into their hands and added unbeaten 215 runs as the 2nd highest partnership in the Indian Premier League. Virat Kohli added 82 runs and Ab de Villiers contributed 133 runs and both the batsmen remained not out.

3. Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh (206 Runs in 2011)

The combination of Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh from Kings XI Punjab is sitting at the 3rd position for striking the best partnership in IPL. Kings XI Punjab faced Royal Challenger Bangalore in the 63rd match of the IPL 2011 at Dharamsala, where KXIP added 232 runs while batting first, and gave the target of 233 runs to RCB. After losing the first wicket of Paul Valthaty at 25 runs, Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh handled the situation and added a record partnership of 206 runs as the 3rd highest partnership in IPL. In reply, RCB could make 121 runs and Adam Gilchrist was named Man of the Match for his 106 runs.

4. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli (204* Runs in 2012)

The pair of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli from Royal Challenger Bangalore is at the 4th position for making the highest partnership in IPL. In the 67th match of the IPL 2012 against Delhi Daredevils, RCB got the chance to bat first and they set a target of 216 runs for Delhi Daredevils in which Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli added unbeaten 204 runs as the 4th highest partnership in the history of IPL. In reply, Delhi could make 194 runs and lost the match by 21 runs, Chris Gayle was named Man of the Match.

5. David Warner and Naman Ojha (189* Runs in 2012)

The combination of David Warner and Naman Ojha from Delhi Daredevils is at the 5th position for hitting the highest partnership in IPL. While playing against Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils got the target of 188 runs to win the match in the 55th match of the IPL 2012. When Delhi came out to chase the target, they lost Virendra Sehwag so early at 4 runs only, but then Warner and Ojha played a superb match-winning inning and added unbeaten 189 runs that helped them to achieve the target. This was the 5th highest partnership in IPL which was made by Delhi Daredevils which is now known as Delhi Capitals.
