CPL: Scoring a century in a T20 format is a big deal for the batsmen. Because the time is very limited and it is very rare for a batsman to reach the 100-run mark. However, an opener or a top-order batsman has the best chance to score big runs because he gets more balls to face. That is what the game has seen. There are a few batsmen who love to go big in the shortest format as well.
The highest score for a batsman in a T20 international is 172 runs, which is registered under the name of Aaron Finch. And we have seen the likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Brendon McCullum, and many more. All of these are kind of the same genre of players. They all play in the CPL. So can you guess what is the highest score in CPL? If not, let’s check.
3. Faf du Plessis (120* runs against St. Kitts in 2021
Former South African skipper Faf du Plessis holds the third highest individual score in the CPL. It came in the 15th match of the 2021 season between St. Lucia and St. Kitts. It was St. Kitts that won the toss and chose to bowl first. St. Lucia got a good start and both openers added 71 runs for the first wicket. Andre Fletcher got out for 23 runs, but Du Plessis carried on the momentum.
In the end, he added an unbeaten partnership of 124 runs off 56 balls with Roston Chase (64* off 31) for the third wicket. Du Plessis carried his bat through the innings and scored an unbeaten century. He made 120 runs off 60 balls with 13 fours and five sixes to help his team reach a big total of 224/2. In reply to a big score, St. Kitts got all out for just 125 runs in 16.5 overs and lost the match by 100 runs.
2. Andre Russell (121* runs) against Trinbago Knight Riders in 2018
When Andre Russell is in the mood, no boundary is big enough. He holds the second highest CPL score by batsman, which came in the 2018 season. It was the match between Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs and was the first match as a captain for Russell. He won the toss and asked Trinbago to bat first, and they batted superbly with clean hitting from Brendon McCullum (56), Chris Lynn (46) and Colin Munro (61). Thus, Trinbago made a big total of 223/6 runs. It required a special performance to chase down the total.
But Jamaica had a horrible start and they lost their first five wickets for just 41 runs. But after that it was only the Russell’s show. He, along with Kennar Lewis (51) added a match-winning partnership of 161 runs for the sixth wicket and smashed the fastest CPL century off 40 balls. Russell made the second highest score of 121* runs off just 49 balls, with six fours and 13 sixes, to help his team register an impossible chase. He also took a hat-trick in the first innings and became the only player to register a century and a hat-trick in the same game.
1. Brandon King (132* runs) against Barbados Tridents (Highest Individual Score in CPL)
It is not Gayle or Russell or McCullum at the top. In fact, it is Brandon King who holds the highest individual score in the CPL that came in the 2019 season. It was the match between the Guyana Warriors and Barbados Tridents at Providence. Guyana won the toss and chose to bat first, and it turned out to be the right decision in the end. They had a slow start and added 80 runs in their first ten overs.
But after that, they just went wild and added almost 140 runs in their last ten overs. It was because of the brilliant century by Brandon King. He carried his bat through and remained not out on 132* off 72 balls, with 10 fours and 11 sixes. Guyana made 218/3 in their 20 overs. In reply, Barbados also tried hard, but they fell well short of the target and made 188/8 in their 20 overs. Guyana won the match by 30 runs, and Brandon won the “Man of the Match” award.
