BBL: The 12th edition of the Big Bash League will start in mid-December 2022. The tournament will kick off on December 16 with a total of 61 games. The defending champions, the Perth Scorchers, will defend their title. Well, in cricket, the prime motive for any batsman is to score big and quick runs. That can help his team dominate the opposition team.
However, scoring a century in the T20 format is not a normal sight. But there are a few batters who went on to score big runs in the shorter format. But in some instances, we have seen batsmen break all batting records. In this article, we will cover the highest individual score in the BBL history.
5. D’Arcy Short (122* runs) vs Brisbane Heat in 2018
D’Arcy Short holds the fifth highest individual score in the BBL. It came in 2018 against the Brisbane Heat at Brisbane. He scored a brilliant unbeaten century and made 122* off 69 balls with eight fours and eight sixes to help his team reach 179/4 in their 20 overs. It was a close game and in reply Brisbane scored 176/8 and lost the game by three runs. Short won the “Man of the Match” for his century.
4. Ben McDermott (127 runs) vs Melbourne Renegades in 2021
Ben McDermott’s century against Melbourne Renegades in 2021 makes it to the fourth list. He scored 127 runs off 65 balls with nine fours and nine sixes to help Hobart Hurricanes reach a big total of 206/5 in their 20 overs. It was his third career BBL century. In response, Melbourne Renegades got all out for 121 runs, and Hobart won the match by 85 runs. McDermott won the “Player of the Match”.
3. Mathew Wade (130* runs) vs Adelaide Strikers in 2020
The veteran wicket-keeper batsman, Mathew Wade, has scored the third highest score in the BBL. It came in 2020, when the Hobart Hurricanes played against the Adelaide Strikers. Batting first, Hobart added 203 runs for the first wicket and scored 217/1 in their 20 overs. Wade made an unbeaten century and scored 130* off 61 balls, with 11 fours and seven sixes. In response, Adelaide made 207/8 and lost the match by 10 runs. Wade was adjudged the “Man of the Match”.
2. Marcus Stoinis (147* runs) vs Sydney Sixers in 2020
Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 147-run innings is ranked second. It happened in 2020, when the Melbourne Stars scored 219/1 in their first innings against the Sydney Sixers. Stoinis added the highest BBL partnership of 207 runs with Hilton Cartwright (59). Stoinis scored 417* runs off 79 balls with 13 fours and 8 sixes. Chasing the target, Sydney made 175/7 and lost the match by 44 runs.
1. Glenn Maxwell (154* runs) vs Hobart Hurricanes in BBL 2021-22
Scoring a century in T20 is a rare sight, but scoring 150+ runs is even rarer. And the only 150+ innings in the BBL is under the name of Glenn Maxwell. He scored it against Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL 2021-22 while playing for Melbourne Stars. This innings also helped Melbourne to score the highest BBL total of 273/2 in just 20 overs. They restricted Hobart to 167/6 and won the match by 106 runs.
