Australia has been the best and most successful team in the game of cricket. They have won all the major tournaments and are also at the top of all three formats. And one prime reason for their dominance is their batting strength. Australia has produced some of the greatest batsmen in the game. Sir Don Bradman is the prime example of this.
Apart from him, there have been so many players that have dominated world cricket. That is why they are known as the World Champions. Australia has a total of eight triple centuries in Test cricket, which is the most by any team in this format. And in this article, we will cover the highest individual score for Australia in the red-ball format.
3. Mark Taylor (334* runs) against Pakistan at Peshawar
Out of three triple centuries, the third highest score is registered under the name of Mark Taylor. In the second game of the three-match Test series against Pakistan, Australia batted first and after winning the toss. Despite losing the first wicket early, they had a 279 run partnership for the second wicket between Taylor and Justin Langer. Taylor, who came out to open, carried his bat through to register a massive record. Australia declared at 599/4 in 174 overs.
Taylor scored an unbeaten 334* runs with 32 fours and one six, while Langer made 116 runs. In response, Pakistan batted equally well and made 580/9 before declaring the innings. Australia batted again with a lead of 19 runs and made 289/5 with Taylor again scoring 92 runs. But the match ended in a draw. Also, Taylor became the third highest individual scorer for Australia.
2. David Warner (335* runs) against Pakistan at Adelaide
David Warner loves playing against Pakistan. The left-hander has an average of over 100 against Pakistan in test cricket and his highest score also came against the same opposition in 2019. It was the second test of the two-match series at Adelaide. Australia won the toss and batted first. They lost the first wicket early, but after that, Warner and Marnus Labuschagne added 361 runs for the second wicket. Labuschagne made 162 runs.
But Warner kept going and remained unbeaten till the very end. Australia declared at 589/3 in 127 overs and Warner made 335* runs with 39 fours and one six. Trailing by a massive score, Pakistan were all out for 302 runs in their first innings and were forced to bat again. Babar scored 97 runs, while Yasir Shah made 113 runs. But in the second innings, Pakistan got all out for 239 runs and lost the match by an innings and 48 runs. With this Warner registered the second highest score for his country.
1. Mathew Hayden (380 runs) against Zimbabwe (2nd Highest in Test cricket)
Mathew Hayden was among the best openers that the game has ever produced. And it is not a surprise that he is at the top. It was a match against Zimbabwe in Perth in October 2003. Zimbabwe won the toss and bowled first and the decision went horribly wrong. Every Australian batter contributed well, but the innings belonged to Mathew Hayden. He went on to score the highest for Australia and the second highest overall score by any batter in test cricket.
He was looking good for 400 but got out at 380 runs with 42 fours and five sixes. Adam Gilchrist remained unbeaten on 113* and Australia declared at 735/6 in 146.3 overs. In reply to his mammoth total, Zimbabwe got all out for 239 runs in the first innings and then batted again to avoid the follow-on. But they could manage only 321 runs in their second innings as well. As a result, Australia won the match by an innings and 175 runs.
