BBL: The upcoming season of the Big Bash League is to get underway at the end of the year. The upcoming tournament will start on December 13 and the final will be played on February 4. Perth Scorchers, four-time champions, will defend their title in the upcoming season. This season will see 61 games, including the finals.
BBL has hosted a total of 11 seasons, and the upcoming season will be the 12th season. However, speaking of performances, the BBL has always delivered some memorable performances. In this article, we will cover one such record, which is a BBL hat-trick. There have been a total of nine hat-tricks in the BBL. So let’s check.
1. Xavier Doherty (Hobart Hurricanes)– BBL 2012/13
The first ever hat-trick in the history of the BBL is registered under the name of orthodox spinner Xavier Doherty. The spinner made his BBL debut in the inaugural season in 2011 for the Hobart Hurricanes but couldn’t make any impact. However, in the next season, he made a really good effort and registered his first hat-trick, which came against Sydney Thunder. He dismissed Simon Keen, Ryan Carters and Cameron Borgas off three consecutive balls to register the hat-trick.
2. Andrew Tye (Perth Scorchers)- BBL 2016/17 and 2017/18 (Two hat-tricks)
After the first BBL hat-trick in the second season, the second one came after a gap of five years. And it was Australian quick Andrew Tye who registered the second hat-trick of the tournament in the 2016/17 season. Tye scored a hat-trick for the Perth Scorchers against the Brisbane Heat. He dismissed Jack Wildermuth, Mitchell Swepson, and Mark Steketee to complete this amazing feat.
Notably, in the very next season in 2017/18, Tye once again repeated this feat and completed his second hat-trick of his career. He took it against the Sydney Sixers this time when he dismissed Sean Abbott, Steve O’Keefe and Daniel Sams off their back-to-back balls. Tye is the only bowler to take two BBL hat-tricks.
3. Josh Lalor (Brisbane Heat) – 2018/19 season
The fourth BBL hat-trick came in the 8th season of the league in 2018/19. It was the 48th game of the tournament between Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers. Pacer Josh Lalor came out to bowl the 18th over of the innings and took three wickets on successive deliveries. In his previous interview, he dismissed Andrew Tye and Matthew Kelly. Then he dismissed Nick Hobson off the first ball of the 18th over. Thus, he registered his fourth hat-trick.
4. Rashid Khan (Adelaide Strikers) – 2019/20 season
Rashid Khan is among the bowlers who have taken a hat-trick in the BBL. The Afghan superstar is among the best bowlers in the shorter format. He is always a challenge for any batter because he has the ability to outfox anyone. That’s what he did in the 2019/20 season when he completed the fifth BBL hat-trick.
It was in the game between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers when Rashid achieved the milestone. He dismissed James Vince, Jack Edwards, and Jordan Silk to complete this milestone.
