GT: The mini-auction for the next edition of the Indian Premier League has certainly reshuffled all the IPL teams. That was the reason the auction held on December 23 in Kochi was an exciting event for every IPL fan. Many big names came under the hammer, and a total of 405 were shortlisted for the auction. A total of 80 players, including 29 overseas, got the deal overall worth of INR 167 crore.
The last edition of the IPL was more entertaining, with the new franchise Gujarat Titans lifting the cup in their maiden season. It opened the door for every team. GT made some big moves ahead of the auction with the release of Lockie Ferguson, who was part of last year’s triumph. They also released Afghan stumper Rahmanullah Gurbaz. However, the Hardik Pandya-led team has acquired some really good signings at the auction.
GT Squad 2023
With already a settled team that won the IPL title in 2022, GT has also added a few back-ups to their team. They have picked an Irish pacer as a replacement for Lockie Ferguson. Then, they also have KS Bharat as an Indian wicketkeeper. Mohammed Shami and Alzarri Joseph will have the good company of Little, Mavi, and Mohit Sharma. The batting looks more settled with the inclusion of Williamson. Thus, the franchise would like to replicate the same performance it had in the 2022 season.

GT picked up Kane Williamson and Odean Smith in the auction
The franchise entered the 2023 IPL auction with a remaining purse value of INR 19.25 crore. They had 10 slots to fill, including seven Indians and three overseas. GT started their auction with a steal deal, when they acquired the former SRH captain Kane Williamson for his base price of INR 2 crore. Notably, the franchise released Dominic Drakes, Gurkeerat Singh, Jason Roy, and Varun Aaron as well ahead of the auction.
And with Williamson in the team, the middle-order will certainly get some boost. With the immense amount of experience the Kiwi skipper will bring to the team, he also has brilliant leadership skills. Then, the franchise also signed hard-hitting West Indian all-rounder Odean Smith, who was released by the Punjab Kings. They acquired Smith for a price of INR 50 lakh. GT also invested in veteran wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat for an amount of INR 1.2 crore.
However, the franchise went all out for uncapped Indian pacer Shivam Mavi and eventually picked him for a price of INR 6 crore. The team also showed trust in veteran Indian pacer Mohit Sharma and picked him for his base price of INR 50 lakh. But the surprising pick was young Irish pacer Joshua Little, who became the first Irish player to feature in the Indian Premier League. GT also picked him up for INR 4.4 crore.
