An ODI century is considered a big thing for a batter. But since the inception of T20 cricket, players are playing more freely and taking more risks in 50-over cricket as well. It took 39 years since ODI cricket was introduced before Sachin Tendulkar became the first batter to score an ODI double hundred.
But since then, ten times the score of 200 or more has been achieved by a batter in ODI format. Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most ODI double centuries. He has scored three in total. Seven out of ten double centuries are scored by Indians. And here we will talk about the fastest ODI double century in history.

6. Sachin Tendulkar (147 balls) vs South Africa in 2010
India’s Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar became the first batter to touch the 200-run mark in an ODI. He smashed the first ODI double hundred against South Africa in February 2010 in Gwalior. Sachin made it in 147 balls and scored 200 not out with 25 fours and three sixes. India made 401/3 and dismissed South Africa for 248 runs to win by 153 runs.
5. Shubman Gill (145 balls) vs New Zealand in 2023
The most recent double century in ODIs was registered by Indian young superstar Shubman Gill. He made a 145-ball double ton against New Zealand at home in January 2023 in Hyderabad. Gill made 208 off 149, with 19 fours and nine sixes. India made 349/8 in the first inning. Chasing the target, New Zealand also came close and made 337, But India won that game by 12 runs.
4. Virender Sehwag (140 balls) vs West Indies in 2011
The second batter to score an ODI double century was former Indian opener Virender Sehwag. He made it against the West Indies in Indore in December 2011. Sehwag completed his double century off just 140 balls and made 219 off 149 balls, with 25 fours and seven sixes. India made a huge total of 418/5 in the first inning and dismissed the West Indies for 265 runs to win the game by a margin of 153 runs.
3. Chris Gayle (138 balls) vs Zimbabwe in 2014
It was Chris Gayle who broke Sehwag’s record when he smashed a 138-ball double century. He made it against Zimbabwe during the 2015 ODI World Cup in Canberra. Batting first, the West Indies made 372/2 in the first inning, while Gayle made 215 off 147 balls, with 10 fours and 16 sixes. In response, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 289 runs and lost the game by 73 runs (DLS method).

Glenn Maxwell became first batsman to score a double hundred in second innings. He also became 3rd player to score a double century in world cup.
1. Ishan Kishan (126 balls) vs Bangladesh in 2022
It was Ishan Kishan who broke Gayle’s record when he hit the fastest ODI double century of all time. He did it in just 126 balls in Chattogram against Bangladesh in December 2022. India made a huge total of 409/8 when Ishan scored 210 off 131 balls, with 24 fours and ten sixes. Bangladesh reached only 182 runs and lost the game by 227 runs.
