ODI: The 10,000-run landmark in any form of the game is huge. There are not many players who have the potential to reach this milestone. Only the legends can do this. However, here we will talk about the players who have scored 11,000 ODI runs in their careers. There have been only nine players that have reached this landmark.
But do you know who is the fastest among those? If not so in this article, we will cover that list. Notably, there are three Indians in the top four. However, there is only one player who is still playing, and the others have retired.
5. Jacques Kallis (South Africa) – 293 innings
Legendary South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis was a one-of-a-kind player. He was equally good with both the bat and the ball for his country and was regarded as the finest all-rounder that the game had ever produced. Kallis is the fifth fastest player overall. He took 293 innings to complete 11000 ODI runs in his career and is the only South African in the list. He made 11579 runs in 314 innings and took 273 wickets as well.
4. Sourav Ganguly (India) – 288 innings
Sourav Ganguly took Indian cricket to new heights. He was an aggressive captain, and the reason he got the charge was his consistency with the bat. The southpaw is the fourth fastest overall and the second Indian to reach the 11,000 ODI run mark. He took 288 ODI innings to complete this milestone. Overall, in his career, he played 300 innings and scored 11363 runs, with 22 centuries and 72 half-centuries. He also took 100 ODI wickets as well.
3. Ricky Ponting (Australia) – 286 innings
Next on the list is certainly the best captain in the game. He is the two-time World Cup-winning captain, Ricky Ponting, who is the best batter that Australia has ever produced in ODIs. Ponting was the third fastest and took two innings less than Ganguly. The former Australian skipper has completed 11000 ODI runs in 286 innings. Overall, Ponting played in 375 ODIs. He scored 13704 runs in 365 innings, with 30 centuries and 82 half-centuries.
2. Sachin Tendulkar (India) – 276 innings
The legendary Indian batter and the one who has scored the most international centuries is next on the list. Sachin Tendulkar is the second fastest batter to score 11,000 ODI runs in the history of the game. He has done this in his 276th innings of his ODI career. Overall, he ended up with the most runs in his career and most games. He made 18426 runs in 452 innings, with 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries.
1. Virat Kohli (India) – 222 innings
Sachin’s record of 11000 ODI runs in 276 matches was widely regarded as the best. But then came Virat Kohli, who smashed that record by a huge margin. The former Indian captain took only 222 innings to complete 11000 ODI runs, which is 54 innings less than Sachin Tendulkar. In ODIs, there are not many close to Virat.
