The biggest event in cricket history, which is played once every four years, is all set to kick off. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will see the top ten teams play against each other to become world champions. This tournament will take place entirely in India and will start on October 5 with a game between England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Ten venues have been shortlisted to host the World Cup games in India. This tournament will have 48 matches, including the final on November 19. England will defend their title and be among the favorites to win the tournament. Each team will face the other nine sides once in the group stage, according to the round-robin format. The top four teams in the group will qualify for the semi-finals. The final date to submit the squad is September 23, and England recently finalized their squads for the World Cup.
ODI World Cup 2023 England Squad
The defending champions will be keen to retain their title, but this tournament will throw them different challenges. Earlier, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a provisional squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. On Sunday, the ECB announced their final squad with a notable change. They have added star youngster Harry Brook to the squad.
A number of former cricketers and cricket anyalits advocated for his inclusion in the team, and finally he is here. He replaced the aggressive opener, Jason Roy, in the team. Notably, Roy missed the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand due to back spasms. Brook’s inclusion will strengthen the star-studded middle order. Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Dawid Malan, Liam Livingstone, and Joe Root are also part of the middle order.
Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow can open the inning. Adil Rashid will be the specialist spinner in the team. The biggest strength of this team is that they have players who can bat from top to bottom. One can say that England will have the longest and strongest batting lineup during the tournament. They have a team to beat in the World Cup 2023.
