The defending ODI World champions are the best team at the moment right now. They are ranked second in ODI team rankings and won the last ODI World Cup in 2019. A few days ago, they just broke their own records for the highest team scores in ODI cricket. They registered 498/4 against the Netherlands in the 1st ODI of a three-match series.
In fact, England holds the record of scoring the top three highest team totals in ODI cricket. But despite having a strong batting line-up, there are some days when batters don’t perform. So in this article, we will cover the lowest team totals for the English team in one-day internationals.

3. England all out for 89 runs against New Zealand at Wellington
It was the 2nd ODI match of England’s tour of New Zealand at Wellington. After winning the toss, England chose to bowl first. New Zealand struggled at the top but recovered with a few partnerships in the middle. In the end, they made 244/8 in their 50 overs. Craig McMillan scored the most, 69 runs while Darren Gough picked up three wickets.
Chasing the target, England had a horrible start and they lost their first five wickets for just 35 runs. They couldn’t recover from that point and got all out for just 89 runs. New Zealand won the match by 155 runs in the end. Andre Adams won the “Man of the Match” for his 25* runs and three wickets from New Zealand.
2. England all out for 88 runs against Sri Lanka at Dambulla
It was the 1st ODI of England’s tour of Sri Lanka at Dambulla. After winning the toss, England chose to bat first, but the decision went wrong. They lost their first five wickets for just 36 runs and kept on losing wickets. In the end, the English team got all out for 88 runs in 46.1 overs. Only Paul Collingwood (31) and Ashley Giles (21) scored more than 10 runs.
Chasing this small target, Sri Lanka went hard on English bowlers from the very first ball. They chased down the target in 13.5 overs without losing any wickets. Sanath Jayasuriya was not out on 46* off 41 and Romesh Kaluwitharana was unbeaten on 36* off 42 balls.
1. England all out for 86 runs against Australia (their lowest in ODI cricket)
The lowest ODI score for England came in a match against Australia at Manchester. Australia won the toss and chose to bat first, but they didn’t score much. They could only manage 208/7 in their 50 overs. Steve Waugh (64) and Damien Martyn (51) were the top-scorers and scored their respective half-centuries.
England had the upper-hand going into the mid-innings break. But that ended very soon as the Australian bowlers didn’t let them go away. England lost their first six wickets for just 40 runs and then got all out for 86 runs in 32.4 overs. Australia won that match by 125 runs. Jason Gillespie picked up three, while Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Andrew Symonds picked up two wickets each.
