3. England (338/8) vs India in 2011
England’s third-highest World Cup total came in a chase that was one of the most exciting games ever. It was registered against India in the 11th game of the tournament in Bengaluru. Batting first, India posted a big total of 338 and got all out in 49.5 overs. Sachin Tendulkar scored 120 runs, while Gautam Gambhir (51) and Yuvraj Singh (58) scored half-centuries. It was a big total to chase.
But England had a decent start with a 68-run opening stand between Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen (31). Later, Strauss added another 170-run partnership for the third wicket with Ian Bell. But Zaheer Khan dismissed both batters in the 43rd over. Strauss made 158 off 145 balls, with 18 fours and one six. India pulled things back, and England were 325/5 in 49 overs, needing another 14 runs from the last. But a last-ball six from Ajmal Shahzad tied the game. England ended with 338/8 in 50 overs.

The second-biggest score in a World Cup event for England came in the 2019 edition at home against Bangladesh. It was the 12th game in Cardiff. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl. England got a 128-run opening stand in 19.1 overs. Jonny Bairstow was the first wicket to fall after scoring 51 runs. Jason Roy carried on and smashed a 92-ball century. He made 153 off 121, with 14 fours and five sixes.
Jos Buttler made 64 off 44 balls; Eoin Morgan (35) and Liam Plunkett (27* off 9) also played good cameos. England scored a big total of 386/6 in the first inning. But Bangladesh also tried hard. Shakib Al Hasan led the chase with a century and made 121 runs off 119 balls. Bangladesh finished at 280 all out and lost the game by 106 runs.

England posted their highest World Cup total against Afghanistan during the 2019 World Cup at home. It was the 24th game in Manchester. The English team won the toss and decided to bat. Jonny Bairstow made a good start with a 99-ball 90 runs, with 8 fours and three sixes. Joe Root also made 88 off 82 balls, with five fours and one six. But the real carnage came from the bat of skipper Eoin Morgan.
He smashed a 57-ball ton and made 148 off 71 balls, with four fours and 17 sixes in his innings. England made 397/6 in their first inning. Morgan’s 17 sixes are the most by a batter in an ODI innings. In response, Afghanistan didn’t get a big score from their batters. They ended up at 247/8 and lost the game by 150 runs.
