3. CSK (109 all out) vs RR in 2008 season
The third lowest total for CSK came against Rajasthan Royals in the 2008 season. It was the 24th game of the tournament in Jaipur, and Chennai won the toss and decided to bat first. But that decision didn’t go well with the performance. They had a poor start and lost their first three wickets for just 11 runs in 2.5 overs. It led them to a poor day with the bat.
Albie Morkel scored 42 off 33 balls and the whole team got out for 109 runs in 19 overs. For Rajasthan, Sohail Tanvir took the best bowling figure of 6/14 in IPL. In response, Rajasthan batted well to get 110/2 in 14.2 overs and won the match by 8 wickets. Tanvir won the “Man of the Match” for his brilliant bowling figure of 6/14.
2. CSK (97 all out) vs MI in 2022 season
The second lowest total for Chennai came in the most recent season in 2022 against the Mumbai Indians. CSK has been dismissed only twice under 100 runs. It came in the 59th game of the tournament in Wankhede. Both Chennai and Mumbai had a horrible season in 2022. In this game, MI won the toss and decided to bowl first. CSK started poorly and lost their first five wickets for 29 within the first six overs.
This didn’t stop there; the other remaining batters also couldn’t contribute much. Skipper MS Dhoni kept batting at one end and remained unbeaten on 36 off 33 balls. Chennai got all out for just 97 runs in 16 overs. Well, in reply, MI also struggled at the start. They lost their first four wickets for just 33 runs. But in the end, they reached 103/5 in 14.5 overs to win the game.
1. CSK (79 all out) vs MI in 2013 season
The rivalry between Mumbai vs Chennai in the IPL is world renown. Both teams never stop playing attacking cricket against each other. During these matches, we often see many memorable and bad performances. The lowest score for CSK came against Mumbai in the 2013 season at Wankhede. It was MI who won the toss and batted first. MI had a pretty rusty batting performance. In the end, they only managed 139/5 in their 20 overs.
It was a below-par score and everyone was favoring Chennai to win. But in the second innings, MI didn’t let CSK play freely. CSK lost their first four wickets for just 18 runs in four overs. They kept losing wickets at the regular intervals. In the end, Chennai got all out for just 79 runs in 15.2 overs and lost by 60 runs. It was CSK’s lowest IPL total in history.
