The Caribbean Premier League is one of the leading T20 leagues in the world. It came into recognition in 2013 and has so far hosted 10 successful seasons. The next edition of the CPL will start on August 16th. So far, this league has given many incredible performances to the fans over the years.
A total of six franchises compete to prove their dominance and lift one of the most prestigious titles in T20 cricket. Jamaica Tallawahs is the defending champions, having won the 2022 edition by beating Barbados Royals in the finals. The Trinbago Knight Riders are the most successful franchise, having won four seasons out of ten. So, in this article, we will cover the list of captains with the most CPL titles.
4. Jason Holder (2019) for Barbados Tridents
Jason Holder took over as captain of the Barbados Tridents (now Barbados Royals) in 2018. He captained the side from the 2018 to 2021 seasons. However, earlier, the franchise won the CPL in 2014 under the captaincy of Kieron Pollard. But Holder led the team to their second CPL title in 2019. He is only the fourth captain to win the CPL title. Holder has led in 43 games and has won 15, while losing 28 matches.
3. Keiron Pollard (2014 and 2020) for Barbados Tridents and Trinbago Knight Riders
Keiron Pollard is among the most successful captains in the Caribbean Premier League. He has led two different franchises to glory. Pollard started his career with the Barbados Tridents (now Barbados Royals) in 2013, where he finished third in the inaugural season. But then, in the next season, he led the team to win their maiden title in 2014. Then, he took over the captaincy of Trinbago Knight Riders and won the championship in the 2020 season, beating St. Locia Zouks (now Saint Lucia Kings) in the finals. He will be seen leading Trinbago in the 2020 season as well.
2. Chris Gayle (2013 and 2016) for Jamaica Tallawahs
Chris Gayle became the very first captain to lift the CPL title in the inaugural season in 2013. He led Jamaica Tallahwahs to become the first ever team to win the championship, beating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final. However, then in the 2014 and 2015 seasons, the franchises ended up in 3rd and 4th place. But in the 2016 season, Gayle won the second title for the franchise as a captain. The Jamaica Tallawahs have won only two titles and both are under the captaincy of Chris Gayle. The left-hander has started 72 games in total and has 39 wins and 31 defeats under his belt.
1. Dwayne Bravo (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2021) for Trinbago Riders and St. Kitts & Nevis
Dwayne Bravo is the most successful captain in CPL history. The all-rounder has four CPL titles under his name. He began his CPL career as the captain of Trinbago Knight Riders in 2013. He led the franchise to title glory in the 2015, 2017 and 2018 seasons, respectively. Later, he switched to St. Kitts & Nevis as a captain, and Pollard captained the Trinbago team. However, Bravo led his new franchise to the title as well. He led St. Kitts & Nevis to win the championships in the 2021 season, beating the St. Lucia Kings in the finals. Bravo has captained in 80 CPL games, winning 51 and losing 27, with one tie and one match ending in a tie.
