CPL 2022: The 10th season of the Caribbean Premier T20 League will kick off on August 30. Ahead of the 2022 CPL T20 edition, all six franchises were asked to choose their pre-draft list of seven players each. The list should include five retention and two new signings. On Monday, each franchise announced the players who will play for them in the upcoming seasons. The grand finale of the season is scheduled for August 30th at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. And this will be the first time that the CPL final will be played for the first time in Guyana.
The defending champions, the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, have retained their seasonal campaigner ahead of the draft. The players retained are: skipper Dwayne Bravo, Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell, and Sherfane Rutherford. However, last season’s finalists, the Saint Lucia Kings, have trusted their best player from last season, Roston Chase. They have also retained two fast bowlers, Alzarri Joseph and Kesrick Williams.
The most successful franchise in the CPL’s history, the Trinbago Knight Riders, have gone for their senior pros for retention. The retained players are Kieron Pollard, Akeal Hosein, Sunil Narine, and Jayden Seales. However, they have made two of the best new signings ahead of the draft in Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell to add two more match-winners to the team. This will be the first time in the history of the CPL that two of the most destructive all-rounders (Pollard and Russell) in the West Indies will play together.
CPL 2022: The other three teams and their retention
The two-time champions, Jamaica Tallawahs, have gone with their skipper, Rovman Powell, and young batters, Kennar Lewis and Shamarh Brooks. They have also picked Fabian Allen and Brandon King as new signings. The 2014 and 2019 season winners, the Barbados Royals, have retained skipper Jason Holder, and the other three players are Kyle Mayers, Oshane Thomas, and Hayden Walsh. Their two new signings are Devon Thomas and Obed McCoy.
Last but not least, the Guyana Amazon Warriors have stayed with Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Chaderpaul Hemraj, and Odean Smith as their retention, and Keemo Paul and Gudakesh Motie are the new signings. All the players will reach the West Indies for the upcoming season on August 23. So let’s check out the complete list of the retained and new signings as per the franchises.
