IPL 2023: The auction for the next edition of the Indian Premier League is set to take place next month. Kochi will host the mini-auction on December 23, Friday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave all ten teams a deadline of November 15 to submit the list of released and retained players. As a result, some big players have been released from their teams ahead of the auction.
The four-time champion Chennai Super Kings have also made some big moves within their team. After ending the last season in ninth place, CSK would like to get their hands on the fifth IPL title. The franchise has made some big calls by releasing some of its veterans. Thus, the Yellow Army will enter the auction with a decent amount of purse value.
CSK Retained Players Squad 2023: Chennai retained Ravindra Jadeja, along with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Chahar
There is no doubt that the franchise has tried to retain its core players who are regulars on the team. Former captain Ravindra Jadeja was the most notable player to remain with the team. Notably, the all-rounder was given the captaincy ahead of the previous season. However, it didn’t go well with the team, and CSK lost back-to-back games. Later, Jadeja was removed from the captaincy, and MS Dhoni was reannounced as the captain.
After that, Jadeja got injured and was ruled out of the competition. That ignited the rumour of a rift between CSK and the all-rounder. Many also predicted that Jadeja might not play with the CSK anymore. But the franchise has retained him. Apart from him, the team has also shown trust in Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, and Mukesh Chowdhary.
Chahar, who was picked in the last season for a mind-boggling amount of INR 14 crore, also got picked, despite missing the entire last season. Speaking of the overseas players, they have gone with Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, Matheesha Pathirana, and Maheesh Theekshana. Pretorius and Theekshana did a decent job for the team in the last season as well.
Retained Players: MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Dwaine Pretorius, Subhranshu Senapati, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Mitchell Santner, Maheesh Theekshana, Tushar Deshpande, Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Chowdhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Simarjeet Singh, Prashant Solanki
Chennai Super Kings Released Players 2023
Well, a franchise was allowed to retain only 15 players, so it was a difficult decision to release some of their main players. But at last, everyone has to take a decision. CSK has also made some big moves. Robin Uthappa, who announced his retirement, will not be playing in the IPL, so he is not there. But one name, which was a surprise was veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.
The former West Indian cricketer was unlucky and will now enter the auction. He, along with Kiwi pacer Adam Milne and English pacer Chris Jordan, were also axed from the team. Milne missed the previous season due to injury, while Jordan didn’t get much chances. However, CSK might look to get Bravo back in the auction.
Released Players: Dwayne Bravo, Robin Uthappa (retired), Adam Milne, Chris Jordan, Hari Nishaanth, KM Asif, Bhagath Varma, Narayan Jagadeesan
Remaining Purse Value for Chennai Super Kings
CSK is left with a remaining purse value of INR 20.45 crore. However, after releasing Bravo and Jordan, CSK would like to sign a death bowler in the upcoming auction.
