The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) launched a competition called The Hundred on July 21st, 2021. This unique concept was created to attract young talent to the game of cricket. A team can only bat in 100-ball innings during the two-and-a-half hour match. This tournament had a total of eight franchises.
One such franchise is the Birmingham Phoenix. The franchise is based on the city of Birmingham. This team represents two counties together: Warwickshire and Worcestershire. The Birmingham Phoenix have both men’s and women’s teams. Moeen Ali is the captain of the men’s team, while Amy Jones is the captain of the women’s side.
The men’s team did a decent job in the inaugural season and ended up as the runners-up. Speaking of the coaches, Daniel Vettori and Ben Sawyer are the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams, respectively.
The home ground for the franchise is at Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Edgbaston Cricket Ground, in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham.
Birmingham Phoenix: Complete Squad
For the upcoming season of the competition, the franchise has signed Mathew Wade as the opener. Notably, he is likely to play in almost every match of the competition and will open with Will Smeed. On the other hand, they have also signed Olly Stone, as he is not likely to feature in the plans for the English test. Thus, he will also be available for the whole season.
For the final overseas pick, the franchise has gone with Australian pacer, Kane Richardson. They have also picked up Greame van Buuren, who is a decent all-rounder and can be used as a floater in the team. The aggressive bowler, Mathew Fisher, was also given a run, so that has strengthened their fast-bowling department.
