It took the Mumbai Indians five years since the league’s inception to win their first IPL title in 2013. But then, they won five IPL titles in eight seasons. MI has won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. However, then came their worst ever IPL season, when the most successful IPL teams ended the season at the bottom of the table. MI won only four games out of 14 in 2022 and finished last.
They also became the first ever team to start any IPL season with eight back-to-back defeats. However, the franchise made every effort to maximize the auction in 2023 and fill the gaps that it couldn’t fill in 2022. And now, the squad is looking really tough with the availability of some good all-round cricketers.
Mumbai Indians Best All rounders in IPL 2023
Adding to that, English star pacer Jofra Archer will also be back, which will provide them with great bowling strength. In this article, we will cover the best all-rounders for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023.
4. Hrithik Shokeen
The Indian Premier League’s governing committee has announced that a new “Impact Player” rule will be implemented in the upcoming season. The BCCI applied this rule in the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy (Indian domestic T20 tournament), and Hrithik Shokeen was the first ever player to be used as an “impact player” in the tournament. Hrithik is a genuine all-rounder for his team and can contribute with both bat and ball. Although he didn’t play much last season, MI can certainly give him a shot in the future. He took two wickets last season and scored 43 runs in three innings.
3. Tilak Varma
Despite a poor season in 2022, MI found some young talent that could serve them well in the coming years. And Tilak Varma was surely the find of the tournament for the five-time champions in 2022. He is a decent batting all-rounder who ended the season as MI’s second-highest run scorer. Tilak scored 397 runs in 14 innings at an average and strike rate of 36.09 and 131.02. Although he wasn’t used much and bowled only two overs, he has taken wickets at the domestic level.
2. Tim David
Singapore-born Australian batting all-rounder Tim David can be a really good option for the franchise in IPL 2022. He showed last season what he could do with the bat in his hand. David Ross played only 8 innings and scored 186 runs at an average of 37.20 and a staggering strike rate of 216.28. Although his hitting ability is enough to make him a valuable addition to any team, he can bowl some decent off-spin as well.
1. Cameron Green
Cameron Green was one of the hottest prospects in the IPL auction 2023, which is why a number of IPL franchises jumped into the bidding war when his name came up. In the end, it was Mumbai Indians who finally acquired him, but they spent a whopping INR 17.5 crore on him. As a result, he is now the second costliest player in IPL history. And the main reason to invest such a huge amount in him is because he is a genuine all-rounder. Green is a key member for Australia in all three formats, and he showed his hitting ability when Australia toured India ahead of the T20 World Cup. And with Kieron Pollard retiring from the IPL, MI needed a hard-hitting all-rounder to replace him.
