Bangladesh is one of the developing teams in the format of red-ball. They are a tough competitor when it comes to the white-ball format. However, they have also shown some good form in the last couple of years in test cricket. Having got membership of ICC status in 2000, they played their first ever match in 2000 against India.
However, they lost their first match by nine wickets, but they became the 10th test-playing nation. The Bangladesh Tigers have played a total of 134 matches so far. But as per the developing team, there are some instances where they have played poorly. So, in this article, we will cover the list of lowest score in Test cricket for Bangladesh.
3. Bangladesh (62 all out) vs Sri Lanka at Colombo (PSS)
The third lowest total for Bangladesh came against Sri Lanka at Colombo (PSS) in July 2007. It was the second match of the three-match Test series. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first. Bangladesh had a poor performance in the first innings of the match. They were bowled out for just 62 runs in 25.2 overs. Only Rajin Saleh (21) crossed the 10-run mark. In reply, Sri Lanka declared at 451/6 in 124.5.
Kumar Sanagakkara made an unbeaten century and remained not out on 200* runs. Sri Lanka got a massive lead of 389. In the second innings, Bangladesh batted decently and reached 299 with the help of skipper Mohammad Ashraful (129*). But it wasn’t enough, and they lost by an innings and 90 runs.
2. Bangladesh (53 all out) vs South Africa at Durban
Bangladesh’s second lowest total came against South Africa at Durban this year in March 2022. After winning the toss, Bangladesh chose to bowl first. Proteas scored 367 runs in their first innings, batting first.Temba Bavuma (93) made the highest runs for his team. In response, Bangladesh also batted well and reached 298. Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored 139 runs in the innings.
With a healthy first innings lead of 69 runs, after a bad start South Africa reached 204 runs and got all out. They set the target of 273 runs to chase. Bangladesh looked back in the game after dismissing the opponent early. But what happened next was totally unexpected. Chasing the target, Bangladesh got all out for just 53 runs in 19 overs and lost the match by 220 runs. Keshav Maharaj took seven wickets for just 32 runs in the second innings.
1. Bangladesh (53 all out) vs West Indies at North Sound
The lowest total came in a match against the West Indies at North Sound. The Caribbean team won the toss and chose to bowl first. Bangladesh batted poorly and couldn’t get going from the start. As a result, they were bowled out for just 43 runs in 18.4 overs. Litton Das was the high scorer with 25 runs, while Kemar Roach took five wickets.
In reply, the West Indies batted well and made 403 in their first innings. Kraigg Brathwaite scored 121 runs, and they got a lead of 360 runs. However, it was too big a task for Bangladesh, and they could only manage 144 runs in their second innings and lost the match by an innings and 219 runs. It was the lowest total for Bangladesh ever in Test cricket history.
