ODI World Cup 2023 Australia Squad
Five-time champion Australia will be one of the favorites to win the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. They have done it five times and will look to add another trophy to their cabinet. On Wednesday, Australia announced a 15-member provisional squad led by Pat Cummins. The team is looking pretty solid and has a number of players that played in 2015, when Australia won the World Cup under Michael Clarke.
The return of big guns like Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and David Warner has provided a great boost. But the injuries to key players are a concerning sign. Notably, Cummins, Starc, Smith, and Maxwell are recovering from their respective injuries, which is why they are not part of the coming ODI series against South Africa.
But the biggest strength of the current squad is the availability of multi-dimensional players who can perform in both departments of the game. Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, Sean Abbott, and Marcus Stoinis are pace-bowling all-rounders, while Ashton Agar and Maxwell are spin all-rounders. Apart from that, Cummins and Starc can also use a long handle when it comes to scoring. All in all, they are looking pretty solid and definitely a contender for the World Cup.
