Australia (377/6) vs South Africa in 2007
Australia posted their third highest World Cup score during their unbeaten streak in the 2007 ODI World Cup. It was the 22nd game of the competition against South Africa in Basseterre. The Proteas won the toss and decided to bowl first. Australia had some big partnerships in their batting innings. Adam Gilchrist (42) and Matthew Hayden added 106 runs for the first wicket in 14.5 overs.
Hayden smashed a 66-ball ton and made 101 off 68, with 14 fours and four sixes. Then, Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke added 161 runs for the third wicket with each other. Both batters got out in the nineties. Ponting made 91 off 91, while Clarke scored a 75-ball 92. Australia scored a massive 377/6 in the first innings. In reply, South Africa also started well with Greame Smith (74) and AB de Villiers (92). But they were all out for 294 and lost by 83 runs.
Australia (381/5) vs Bangladesh in 2019
The second biggest World Cup total for Australia came in 2019 against Bangladesh. It was the 26th game in Nottingham, and they won the toss and batted first. David Warner and Aaron Finch added 121 runs for the first wicket in 2035 overs. After that, Australia had another big partnership for the second wicket. Warner and Usman Khawaja added 192 runs. Khawaja made 89 off 72, while Warner scored a hundred.
He made 166 off 147 balls, including 14 fours and five sixes. The Australian team finished at 381/5 in 50 overs. The response was equally impressive from Bangladesh, and they registered their highest ODI total against Australia. Though they didn’t win, they made 333/8 in their chase. Mushfiqur Rahim made an unbeaten 102 off 97 balls. Bangladesh lost the game by 48 runs.
Australia (417/6) vs Afghanistan in 2015
The highest World Cup total and biggest World Cup win came in the 26th game of the 2015 edition. It was the match between Australia and Afghanistan in Perth. Afghanistan won the toss and field first but couldn’t restrict the Australian batters. Australia lost Aaron Finch (4) early, but David Warner and Steven Smith added 260 runs for the second wicket. Smith got out for 95 runs, which brought Glenn Maxwell to the crease.
Maxwell smashed a 21-ball fifty and made 88 off 39 balls, with six fours and seven sixes. On the other hand, Warner made a 92-ball ton and reached 150 off 116 balls. The left-hander made 178 off 133 balls, with 19 fours and five sixes, to help Australia post a mega total of 417/6 in the first inning. It was a tough task for Afghanistan, and they were bundled out for just 142 runs in 37.3 overs. Australia registered a win by 275 runs.
