The 15th edition of the Asia Cup 2022 was held in UAE. This tournament is played to decide the superior team in the Asian continent. Notably, the very first edition took place way back in 1983 in the UAE. It was established to increase goodwill between all the Asian teams. This tournament was previously played in the ODI format, but in 2016, it was played in the T20 format for the very first time. Team India is the Last Asia Cup winner and had defeated Bangladesh in the Final.

However, the upcoming edition will also be played in the T20 format later this month. The Men in Blue are the defending champions and are also the most successful team in this tournament’s history. The upcoming edition was supposed to be played earlier in 2020. But due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was postponed to 2022.

Speaking of the last edition of this tournament. In 2018, UAE was the host and a total of six teams competed in the tournament. It was India who came out victorious and won their 7th title overall. While Bangladesh ended as the runner-up. Prior to that in 2016, India and Bangladesh played the final and it was India who won that match as well.

India is currently the defending champions and the most successful team in the history of the Asia Cup. The Men in Blue won the inaugural season of the tournament in 1984, beating Sri Lanka in the final in the UAE. Then they made a hat-trick of titles in 1988, 1990/91, and 1995. But after that, it took India 15 years to win this title as they won their next title in 2010, beating Sri Lanka.

And now, they are coming off two back-to-back title wins in 2016 and 2018, both against Bangladesh. So they will look to make another hat-trick of titles by winning the upcoming edition. Apart from winning it, India has also ended as runners-up in 1997, 2004, and 2008.
