The Asia Cup was first played in 1984, after India became the champions of the 1983 World Cup. Since then, this tournament has taken place almost every two years. Top teams from the subcontinent take part in it. Earlier, it used to be played between four teams (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh). However, with the passage of time, six teams are now participating. So far, 15 seasons have taken place.
India is the most successful team in this tournament, as they have won seven out of the 14 editions they have played. India won this competition in 1984, 1988, 1990–91, 1995, 2010, and 2018. Second is Sri Lanka, with six titles (1986, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2014). Pakistan has also won it twice, in 2000 and 2021, respectively. This tournament used to take place in ODIs, but then it was first played in T20I format in 2010.
