Adelaide Strikers: The 12th edition of the Big Bash League is all set to start next month. The BBL 2022-23 will kick off on December 13 with a game between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. This season will feature a total of 61 games, including five playoff matches. The final match will take place on February 4, with the venue yet to be decided.
The 2017 BBL champions, Adelaide Strikers, were unlucky in the last season as they finished in fifth place. Despite having a better NRR and the same number of wins, they were just one point behind the Brisbane Heat. Thus, the Heat qualified for the playoffs and the Strikers couldn’t. Here, we will talk about the list of lowest BBL totals for the Adelaide Strikers.
3. Adelaide Strikers (88 all out) vs Perth Scorchers in 2018 season
The third lowest and third highest BBL totals for the Adelaide Strikers are registered against the Perth Scorchers. The third-lowest total was at Perth Stadium in the ninth game of the 2018 season. The Scorchers won the toss and put the Strikers to bat first. The Strikers had a slow start with a 25-run opening partnership in 4.3 overs. But once the first wicket was gone, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
They were at 46/7 in 11.2 overs and were looking to register their lowest total. But then, Cameron Valente (21) and Rashid Khan (21) made some contributions. But still, the Strikers got all out for 88 runs in 17.2 overs. In reply, the Perth Scorchers chased down the target in 18 overs and made 92/3 to win the game by seven wickets. This was the third-lowest BBL score for the Adelaide Strikers.
2. Adelaide Strikers (87 all out) vs Perth Scorchers in 2012 season
The second-lowest total for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League came in the 2012 season. It was a game against the Sydney Sixers at Adelaide Oval. The Sixers won the toss and chose to bat first. They had a decent batting performance in their first innings. With the help of Moises Henriques (42), the Sixers reached a total of 151/8 in their 20 overs. It wasn’t a big total to chase.
However, despite a below-average target, the Strikers needed a good start to their chase. But they lost their skipper Michael Klinger (0) for a golden duck in the very first over. After him, only Aiden Blizzard (27 off 21) could spend some time on the crease, and none of the other batters could make a significant score. As a result, the Strikers got all out for just 87 runs in 18.4 overs and lost the match by 64 runs.
1. Adelaide Strikers (68 all out) vs Melbourne Stars in BBL 2021
The lowest BBL total for the Adelaide Strikers is against the Melbourne Stars. It came in the 40th game of the 2021 season at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Strikers won the toss and chose to bowl first. But they didn’t have a great bowling performance. Andre Fletcher made a mockery of their bowlers and scored an unbeaten 89 runs off 49 balls. Thus, the Melbourne Stars made 179/2 in their 20 overs.
In reply, the Strikers had a poor start to their chase. They lost their two openers for 8 runs in 2.4 overs. Matt Renshaw (20 off 23) tried to hold the inning together, but he too fell down. That was the start of the cluster of wickets. The whole team got dismissed for just 68 runs in 14.2 overs, losing the game by 111 runs. Only three batters reach the double-figure mark. That was their lowest BBl total.
