Adelaide Strikers: The Big Bash League is one of the most entertaining leagues in the world at the moment. It has already hosted 11 successful seasons so far. The 12th edition of the BBL is about to start on December 13. A total of 61 games will be played in the tournament, and the final will take place on February 4. The Perth Scorchers will defend their title this season.
BBL has given many incredible T20 performances in history, and one of them is the third highest T20 total (273/2). Well, in this article, we will cover the list of highest totals for the 2017 season champion, the Adelaide Strikers. Strikers has gone past the 200-run mark twice so far. But they have been one of the most consistent teams in BBL history.
3. Adelaide Strikers (198/4) vs Perth Scorchers in 2019 season
In the 2019 BBL season, the Adelaide Strikers have the third-highest total against the Perth Scorchers. It was the 10th game of the tournament at Adelaide, and Perth won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Strikers lost their first wicket in the very first over when Phil Salt (2) got out. Then Jake Weatherald and Matthew Short (34) added an 86-run partnership for the second wicket. Weatherald then added another 71 runs with skipper Alex Carey for the third wicket.
Carry made a quick half-century and scored 55 off 24 balls, with 8 fours and two sixes. Weatherald also made 83 off 47, with 10 fours and three sixes. As a result, the Strikers made 198/4 in their 20 overs. In reply, the Scorchers also had a brilliant 124-run partnership for the first wicket in just 8.4 overs between Josh Inglis (50 off 27) and Liam Livingstone (69 off 26). But then they only scored 183/7 in their 20 overs, and the Strikers won by 15 runs.
2. Adelaide Strikers (202/2) vs Hobart Hurricanes in 2018 season
The second highest BBL score for the Adelaide Strikers came in the 2018 season against the Hobart Hurricanes. It came in the final of the season in Adelaide. The Strikers won the toss and decided to bat first in the final. Batting first, they had a good 41-run partnership for the first wicket. Alex Carey got out after scoring 18 off 16. But after that, Jake Weatherald and skipper Travis Head added 140 runs for the second wicket in 13.2 overs.
Weatherald scored a 58-ball century and made 115 off 70 balls, with 9 fours and 8 sixes. Carey was not out on 44 runs off 29 balls, with two fours and one six. In the end, a 14-run cameo from Colin Ingram helped the Strikers reach 202/2 in the final. And it proved to be the match-winning target for them. In the chase, Hobart managed only 177/5, and the Strikers won their maiden BBL title by 25 runs.
1. Adelaide Strikers (207/8) vs Hobart Hurricanes in 2020 season
The highest BBL score for the Adelaide Strikers is also registered against the Hobart Hurricanes, which came in the 2020 season. It was the 55th game of the competition, and the Hurricanes won the toss and chose to bat first. They had a record first wicket parnership between D’Arcy Short and skipper Mathew Wade. Both batters added 203 runs in 18.2 overs. Short scored 72 off 55 balls, while Wade remained unbeaten at 130 off 61 balls, with 11 fours and 7 sixes.
Thus, Hobart scored 217/1 in their 20 overs. Chasing the target, the Strikers needed a big partnership. But they couldn’t get going in the middle. Phil Salt gave them a good start and made 66 off 33 balls. However, other batters were unable to record a significant hit. Thus, the Strikers fell short by 10 runs and made 207/8. That means the highest BBL total for the Adelaide Strikers came in a losing cause.
