Indian Premier League changed the dynamics of the game since it came into existence in 2008. It is always a special thing for a batter to reach a three-figure mark in T20 cricket.
With the evolution of T20 format and change of rules, we are now seeing more T20 centuries by players. But there was a time, when it was pretty rare for a batter to score a century. However, there have been some odd occasions when the batters got out or remained not out on 99. This article will also feature batters with 99-run scores in the Indian Premier League.

1. Suresh Raina (CSK) – 99 not out
Suresh Raina was the first batter to score 99 runs in an IPL inning. He did it against SRH in 2013. Raina scored an unbeaten 99 off 52 balls, with 11 fours and three sixes. CSK made 223/3 and restricted SRH for 146/8 to win by 77 runs.
2. Virat Kohli (RCB) – 99 runs
Virat Kohli scored 99 runs in an inning during the 2013 season against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). He got run out on 99 off 58 balls, with 10 fours and four sixes. RCB made 183/4 and Delhi reached 179/7 and lost by four runs.
3. Prithvi Shaw (DC) – 99 runs
Third batter to score 99 runs in an IPL inning was Prithvi Shaw. He did it in 2019 for Delhi Capitals against KKR in Delhi. KKR made 185/8 in the first inning. Shaw gave DC a good start and got out on a 55-ball 99, with 12 fours and three sixes. DC made 185/6 and match was tied. Later, Delhi won the super-over.
4. Chris Gayle (PBKS) – 99 not out
Chris Gayle is the only batter with two scores of 99 runs in IPL. His first came for Punjab while playing against RCB in 2019 in Mohali. He scored an unbeaten 99 off 64, with 10 fours and five sixes in the first inning and Punjab made 173/4. Though they couldn’t defend the title and RCB made 174/2 and won the game.
5. Ishan Kishan (MI) – 99 runs
Ishan Kishan has scored 99 runs once in his IPL career. He made it against RCB in 2020 in Dubai. RCB made 201/3 in the first inning. Chasing the target, Ishan scored 99 off 58, batting at No. 4. MI reached 201/5 and match was tied. Later, RCB won the super-over.
6. Chris Gayle (PBKS) – 99 runs
Chris Gayle scored his second 99 in the 2020 season against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi. Batting first, PBKS made 185/4 in the first inning and Gayle made 99 off 63, with six fours and 8 sixes. RR made 186/3 in 17.3 overs and won the game.
7. Mayank Agarwal (PBKS) – 99 not out
Mayank Agarwal was the next batter with a 99 in the IPL. He did it in 2021 playing for PBKS against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad. PBKS made 166/6 in 20 overs while Agarwal scored 99 not out from 58 balls, with four sixes and 8 fours. Punjab couldn’t defend the title and DC made 167/3 in 17.4 overs and won the game.
8. Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK) – 99 runs
CSK star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 99 runs in an inning against SRH in 2022 in Pune. Batting first, CSK made 202/2 in the first inning. Gaikwad made 99 off 57 balls, with six fours and six maximums. In the second inning, SRH reached a total of 189/6 and lost the game by 13 runs.
9. Shikhar Dhawan (PBKS) – 99 not out
The most recent one came from the bat of Shikhar Dhawan in the 2023 season. It came in the match between PBKS and SRH. Punjab had struggling batting inning and they reached only 143/9. Dhawan alone made 99 not out from 66 balls, with 12 fours and five sixes. SRH made 145/2 in the second inning and won by 8 wickets.
