Big Bash League was only the second T20 franchise tournament to be introduced in 2011 after the success of the Indian Premier League. BBL has successfully more than 10 seasons now and it consists of 8 teams mainly based on the top cities in Australia. Perth Scorchers is the most successful franchise with 5 BBL championship.
Some of the biggest batting icons feature in this tournament every year, which makes it one of the most exciting cricket tournaments in the world. 1. Shaun Marsh (Melbourne Renegades) – 99 not out vs Perth Scorchers
The first battrer in the BBL history to score 99 runs in an inning was Shaun Marsh. He did it in the inaugural season while playing for Melbourne Renegades against Perth Scorchers. This match was played in Melbourne. Batting first the Renegades scored 188/3 in the first inning. Aaron Finch made 49 while skipper Andrew McDonald made 50 off 33 balls.
In the second inning, the Scorchers had a good start with a 95-run opening stand. Herschelle Gibbs made 57 off 36 balls, with 8 fours and two sixes. Shaun Marsh took the chase forward and carried his bat through the inning. He made an unbeaten 99 runs from 52 balls, with nine fours and five sixes. Scorchers made 192/2 in 19.2 overs and won the game.
2. Marcus Stoinis (Melbourne Stars) – 99 runs vs Brisbane Heat
The second time a batter scored 99 runs in a BBL inning happened in the 2017 edition. It was the second game of the tournament in Brisbane. Batting first, Brisbane Heat scored a massive score of 206/7 in the first inning. Brendon McCullum (40 off 22), Joe Burns (50 off 28), Alex Ross (51 of 36), and Ben Cutting (35 off 18) made some good contributions.
It was a big score to chase for the Stars. But they got off to a poor start. and lost their top four batters for just 53 runs in 6.5 overs. But then, Marcus Stoinis played one of the best T20 knocks under pressure. He smashed took on the charge but got out on 99 runs off 51 balls, with six fours and six sixes. The Stars reached a total of 191/6 and lost by 15 runs.
3. Josh Philippe (Sydney Sixers) – 99 not out vs Melbourne Stars
The third batter to score 99 runs in a BBL inning was Josh Philippe. He did it in the 2021. It was the 13th game of the season between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers at the MCG. Batting first, Melbourne lost some wickets upfront. But skipper Glenn Maxwell smashed a 54-ball century. He made 03 off 57 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes.
As a result, Melbourne reached a total of 177/5 in the first inning. Chasing the target, Sydney got a good start from opener Josh Philippe, who took his team home to a win. He remained not out on 99 runs off 61 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes. Sydney made 182/3 in 19.3 overs and won by seven wickets.
