The 11th edition of the ODI World Cup was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2015. Team India entered the tournament as the defending champions under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The 2015 edition saw a total of 14 teams participate in the tournament, which had 49 games. This competition was hosted at 14 different venues, while the final took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Afghanistan made their World Cup debut during this tournament, and the United Arab Emirates made their only second appearance since 1996. The 14 teams were divided into two groups of seven. Just like the previous event in 2011, the 2015 event saw the host end the tournament as winners. It was the Australian team that ended up winning their fifth title. Michael Clarke led his country to its fifth title in history.

Australia’s journey in 2015 ODI World Cup
Michael Clarke and his team started the tournament in a brilliant way. They thrashed archrivals England in their opening game at MCG by 111 runs. With the help of Aaron Finch (115), Australia made 342/9 and dismissed England for 231 runs to win the game. However, their next game against Bangladesh ended without a result due to rain. Both teams shared one point each.
The third group match for Australia was a defeat at the hands of co-host New Zealand in a close finish. Batting first, Australia got all out for 151 runs and New Zealand made 152/9 with just one wicket in hand. Trent Boult (5/27) and Mitchell Starc (6/28) were the top performers in the game. With one win, one loss, and one NR in the first three games, Australia needed to win all their remaining games, and they did exactly the same.
They started with a record win in the next game against Afghanistan by 275 runs. It is still the highest World Cup win in history. Australia made 417/6 with David Warner (178) scoring century and dismissed Afghanistan at 142 to registered this huge win. In their next game, they beat Sri Lanka by 64 runs. Australia made 376/9 and dismissed Sri Lanka for 312. Glenn Maxwell made 102 off 53 balls.
The next game for the Aussies was rather easier. They won the one-sided affair against Scotland, where they registered a seven-wicket win. After finishing their group in second place, Australia faced Pakistan in the quarterfinals at the Adelaide Oval. They dismissed Pakistan for 213 runs and made 216/4 to win by six wickets. With this win, Australia made it to the semi-final, where they faced India. It was a high-profile clash. Australia made 328/7, and Steve Smith made 105. In reply, India got dismissed for 233 and lost the game by 95 runs.

Australia Roadmap to 2015 World Cup Final
Australia met New Zealand in the final of the tournament at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium. Both teams met once again in the group stage and New Zealand won that game by one wicket. Australia dismissed New Zealand for just 183 runs in 45 overs and made 186/3 to win it by seven wickets and lift their ffith World title. Australia made history and also won USD 3,975,000 as the champions.
