Sher-e Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) is a cricket stadium located in Mirpur Thana district of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is a newly built cricket stadium in the country. Built in 2006, the SBNS has a capacity of 26,000. Earlier it was known as Mirpur Stadium. But the Government of Bangladesh later renamed it as Sher-e Bangla Stadium. It is regarded as the best cricket stadium in Bangladesh & certainly one of the best in the world. The drainage facility on this ground is regarded as the best in the entire subcontinent. The SBNS was one of the premier venues of the 2011 World Cup along with other grounds in India & Sri Lanka. The first test match on this ground was played in 2007 between India & Bangladesh. The first ODI was played in 2006 between Bangladesh & Zimbabwe. Before the 2011 World Cup, the ground was put through an extensive renovation when a giant screen & an electronic scoreboard were installed. Floodlights were improved & a hover cover was brought in from UK at a cost of $16,000. A new media center was also built to accommodate 200 journalists.
