Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium (MRIS) is a cricket stadium located in Hambantota, Sri Lanka. It is a newly built stadium in Sri Lanka & was built keeping the 2011 World Cup in mind. It has a capacity of 34,000 plus spectators. But the capacity is slated to be increased to 60,000 people in the near future when the ICC World T20 Tournament is held next year. The stadium will also be used if Hambantota is given the go-ahead to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Since it is a newly built stadium, not many matches have been played here. It has hosted two matches of the 2011 World Cup, one of which involved the home team when they took on the minnows Canada. Sri Lanka went on to win the match by 2010 runs.
