Sri Lanka vs Australia 2011 Schedule

Sri Lanka and Australia have always been great cricketing rivals. Encounters between the Asian giants and Team Aussie are always engaging and exhilarating, and Australia’s tour to the Emerald Island this year promises audiences and spectators unadulterated and uninhibited cricketing experience. Sri Lanka vs Australia 2011 is slated to begin on Saturday, August 6 2011, as decided by the International Cricket Council, as well as the respective cricketing boards of the countries. This bilateral series, hosted by Sri Lanka, forms a part of the innovative Future Tour Programs that has been initiated by the ICC during the cricketing calendar of 2010-2011.

The 2011 bilateral series between Sri Lanka and Australia kick starts with a T20 International to be held at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy. There is one more T20 International that would be take place in the same venue on August 8. After the two T20 Internationals, both teams will battle it out over the One Day International format. Starting from the August 10, Sri Lanka will take on Australia on a 5 match, ODI bilateral series. Two out of those five are D/N matches, to be held at Hambantota. Besides, Kandy and Colombo will be the other venue.

After the completion of the T20 Internationals and ODI series, both teams will face off in the most difficult phase of cricket – Test Cricket. Australia vs Sri Lanka 2011 Test Series will consist of three Test Matches, starting from August 31, 2011, at Galle. The other two Tests will take place at Kandy and Colombo, from September 8, and 16 respectively. Sri Lanka is already lingering to snatch the spot for the best Test team in the world from current champions India. This is their chance to make a mark against a comparatively new, but determined Aussie team.

The tour finishes on September 21, 2011. But as far as the organization of the tour is concerned, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board is in a debt of $23 million, after the 2011 World Cup. Hence, they have decided to cut down on the expenses associated with Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka 2011, in order to save money. In fact, the allocated amount of the tour has been slashed from 300 million rupees to 100 million rupees. Also, by making necessary changes in the security system, Sri Lankan Cricket Board will be able to save about 40 million rupees.
