Karn, Rahul should be called up for Australia: Dravid

Rahul Dravid believes that it’s Karn Sharma and not Ravindra Jadeja who should be picked as India’s second spinner for the test series against Australia. Dravid’s logic is that in Australia, there would not be much to do for the finger spinners as the ball would not grip the surface, but, the wrist spinners, especially the quickish ones as Karn is, might leave some impact. Jadeja had been lethal when India had last played a test series against the Aussies, but, those were different conditions. The matches were played on dusty wickets. In Australia, there would be true bounce on the pitches and a bowler like Jadeja who just bowls wicket to wicket, might go for plenty.

In South Africa, New Zealand and England, Jadeja played almost every test match, but, he looked quite ordinary on the pitches that were not responding to his kind of bowling.  He did not seem to have the flight and speed variation to make the batsmen commit to false strokes. Karn, on the other hand, has googly and flipper and on the down under tour with the A team of India recently, he got some wickets and like Jadeja, he is also a handy batsman down the order.

The other new face that Dravid wants to see in team India is K L Rahul, the opening batsman from Karnataka. The right hander hit the three figure mark in both the innings in Duleep Trophy final and during the last Ranji season also, he had made big scores. So, Dravid thinks he should be considered as the back-up opener instead of Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir also scored a hundred in Duleep Trophy semi final against the Central zone, but, according to Dravid, KL Rahul is in a better shape at the moment and thus, he should go to Australia.
